So if the speedo reads 10% over, like my Jag does, we should be adjusting our expectations on when to give up the fuel station roulette. When my 6.0 says I have 20 miles left, I know for a fact that I don’t.

Heh, the 850 does that.

I'm not honestly sure how it works but it's a possibility

A suggestion for those worried about using the last 20 miles of fuel, the installation of an LPG system would mean you can indeed use up every last drop of vaporised liquid dinosaurs before switching briefly to petrol to get to the nearest lpg station and filling up again at 1980s prices for fuel :)

But the system would be worth more than the car in my case!

What would the range be on a normal sized tank on a big lung cat like mine? I get 250 miles from a tank of petrol (more on a long run admittedly).

Depends on what tank you have fitted, we used to fit the biggest that doesn't get in the way depending on boot size, I would guess you could fit a 90l tank minimum which would give you around 72l of fuel (or a bit more of you tweek the fill level cut off) at maybe 3 miles per litre that would get you 200 miles.

So all being well I'm planning to buy that 323 on the bay.

It's going to be a pre-booked MOT jobbie to get it home unless I can think of a better way.

Any advice re: the pre booked MOT route, or do I just book one in Manc and hope for the best? I suspect the car needs to cross the Thames somehow but I'm intending to use the Blackwell Tunnel for that.

I think ANPR is vicious around there. I had a cautionary pull by a rozzer just for having a dirty plate.

Just make sure it's on the MID and the garage have the number plate written down.

Cousin took a Jeep through the centre of London taking it back up north as the motorway was closed with nothing other than a trade plate on the back, neither previous owner not he ever had any come back.

I'm starting to think I might just get it recovered.
