That Corsa is the first car I found on my WBoD search.
I was going to buy it outright - but £800 insurance. Volvos, Jags, excecutive cars, all cheap as chips. Even my former go-to the R8 200/400 is still a grand to insure. Anything post- 90 and remotely small sedate and conventional, £800-1000. All I can insure is waftbarges (???). Bigger is cheaper for me.

If I'm going to buy and run that Corsa (or any WBoD), for the same money I could buy this CX Break auto and insure it for £320. It runs so load it on a trailer and get it here, sort it over winter, and then I've got a CX.

Ideal project to cut my teeth on.

I bought a plastic CX Break at Mézidon-Canon. Maybe it was a sign lol.

You've got a WBOD, the Volvo. They're designed for Sweden for gawds sake.

Just book a test and drive it. I went almost into the middle of London (Clapham) last year in a 14 year old Nissan Teranno with a rickety trailer behind me. Didn't realise until a few weeks later that it had no MoT. I think the London Police must have plenty enough to do without worrying about that. Or I was really lucky.

I did get pulled once in the centre though in an old 306. It was by a motorcycle cop who was stuck behind me in traffic. I initially thought it was because my cooking oil fumes were stinking him out but it turned out to be because my boot was full of tools and he was wondering why it was so low in the back end. It wasn't all that low really but they must be told to be aware of these things.

Anyway, my point it: just insure it, book mot, drive it. Check visible legalities before you leave. Lights, tyres etc. You might get pulled but if you aren't breaking the law in sure it will be ok. Just make sure it is either on the MiD in your name or you have a paper copy of the insurance certificate.

Yep, that's the problem. Since all Swedish cars are so incredibly shit, they import 4-6,000 old yanks annually.

Finally, some sense. I always wondered what the Autoshite fixation was with Swedish crap. I do miss my Saab 96 though, that was a decent little car.

Swedish is about understated performance, especially straight line. A car that gives the straight edge German machines a bloody good kicking, while your dog is sat (sick) in the boot.

Something very British about that.

A 13 year old Volvo S60 is built to a standard all other cars are judged by, including German crap. Even Ford ownership couldn't ruin it. That's proper Volvos and nothing infected with Ford parts. Volvo don't do soft feel plastics and silicon damped grab handles. They just make stuff Mercedes can only dream of.
