Finally managed to get the bonnet open on the Frontera today. With the inside bonnet release being pulled I got a screwdriver on the catch and managed to force it enough.

If you can see the plastic end of the cable had pulled through its retaining ring so not enough force was being pulling. Put it back on and spread the 'fingers' out but I had to take the return spring off.

Messing about with the catch seeing if I could lock it again with a screwdriver made the plastic clip come out again. It's back now but I'm not sure it'll stop. I also couldn't lock it. Think it needs the bonnet to be slammed and I wasn't going to do that.

Further down on the release cable was this split.

I say was as it's now completely snapped and the outer cover is separated. Was still working though. I do have a new cable but it looks a shit to thread through.

While the bonnet is now up I managed to find out why the clutch has failed. There's sod all fluid in it. I'll have to get some tomorrow.

Much messing has happened today.

Bonnet lock had a small bit of wire round the plastic bit to try and secure it and it was all refitted. It sort of works but I can't get the adjustment just right so it can be a bugger to open but it does open which is something.

The clutch is another thing though. Fluid was topped up and I can't see a leak in the hydraulics anywhere. Bled it best I can and while not amazing the car does now move.

Next step will be to drive it for a bit and check for leaks then go from there. Not sure if I should just change the bonnet cable or not.

Fun other news is milky crap in the oil on the cap. Hoping it's just from a damp engine and now the head gasket.

Well nearly 4 years to the day I think it's time for an update so I don't forget in future.

Bonnet cable still not replaced on the Frontera but it does work when it feels like it unlike the engine. It started squealing

After much dicking about today I got the belts off and it's the power steering pump or belt as it's now quite.

Unfortunately that's not cured it's new problem which started last week of loosing power, engine light on that getting it back. It's random, leave it to idle and it's OK but then light on, engine sounds like it's not fired? And then back to normal. It's a newish battery and all earth's are ok so god knows. More messing to be done but I need someone in the car watching stuff while I try things in the engine.

My 2005 Fiesta ST has a knackered engine. Burning tons of oil. After new valve guide seals, and money down the shitter, it's been decided its the rings even though it had a good compression test so it's off for a full rebuild.

Getting taken out by a friend of a friend and then off to a proper engine machine shop in Castleford to be worked on. All not cheap.

My Tirga needs ned front suspension as it bangs like a bastard, it'll have to wait.

Definitely.
You'll probably notice that the mods are even more degenerate and primitive now.
