Re: 4.0 Discovery 2 trials & tribulations
Ha ha, the fun & games of Land Rover ownership... a mate just called, the aux belt tensioner on his Disco TD5 has collapsed, can I drive over & pick a new one up from a local supplier, and give him a hand fitting it. Yes, but I need to fit the replacement osr calliper to mine before it's safe to drive and I can't bleed the brakes on my own... so he's catching the train to my house to help me fettle my Disco so we can then drive over to his to sort his one out

Re: 4.0 Discovery 2 trials & tribulations
Ooof. That was nearly an embarrassing mistake.
I didn't check the parcel that arrived this morning. It wasn't actually the calliper (which has just arrived now, luckily). It was a Russian Navy coastguard captain's uniform that I bought off ebay (£20 delivered, get in!) for a Secret Santa I'm involved in. I'd have been pretty pissed off if I'd unboxed that down at the unit, expecting a calliper...!

Re: 4.0 Discovery 2 trials & tribulations
New calliper fitted...
Brakes bled & tested, Disco is now a very happy bunny
Sorted my mate's borked TD5 tensioner too. In fact, it only took 2 hours to replace my calliper, drive 10+ miles to his place via the LR spares stockist & fit the new tensioner.
Today was one of those blue-sky spannering days

Re: 4.0 Discovery 2 trials & tribulations
And the fun & games continue.
The next fault is that the gear lever isn't self-centring between 3rd and 4th gear, which makes selecting 3rd from 2nd a pain in the arse. I suspect a bias plate and/or spring problem, which means the centre console has to come out.
I'll investigate when I find time.

Re: 4.0 Discovery 2 trials & tribulations
What year is yours? You might still have the centre diff lock. Early disco 2s just need a lever and a couple of minor mods to reinstate it, particularly if you're taking the centre console out anyway.
Not worth it if you don't off road much though.

I've got a feeling the late ones had it too. I think it was just deleted for a year or two & put back after complaints.

Re: 4.0 Discovery 2 trials & tribulations
Mine's a 1998, so the mechanism will be there (although probably seized solid).
Good call - I had planned on reinstating the full (mechanical) diff lock functionality, so this would be the perfect opportunity.
