What Yas Your Wedding Car?

Post by Jerzy Woking »

Speaking to my neighbour last night, he told me the former owner of my house had a Citroen Avant that he rented out for weddings. When he retired, his son took it on, and is very busy.

For those (un)fortunate to be married, what was your wedding car? My first wedding it was a Citroen CX 2.2 GTi that belonged to my brother-in -laws brother. Lovely car that was.

Last wedding we got to the registry office by metro and trolley bus, and on the way back, a regular bus and metro.

My Black Mk2 Golf GTi.

We'd put ourselves in serious hock to buy our dream house, on the side of a hill in the Chilterns and just across the road from a large National Trust estate, so were being careful with the money. Our honeymoon was a week self catering in the Lakes.

First go, we were skint (nothing's fucking changed) and had to used borrowed transport. Bride arrived in my Grandad's Accord, I had my boss's Supermirafiori which he kindly lent me for the week to go on honeymoon to Cornwall.

Current Mrs Rocker arrived in at the registry in our 260E driven by her son and I used the Minor.

Got pics of all this somewhere but not easy to hand.....
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

First wedding to Kyle's Mum was a MEGA posh affair that her lovely (genuinely) parents paid for in full. We had two vintage Packards and a Ford Granada Ghia for the best man! I got my first bollacking of married life on the journey from the church to the reception as I spent the entire trip chatting to the chauffeur about the glorious Packard!

The last wedding was a trip on shanks to the registry office and then a brisk walk round the corner to the pub. Later, £300 spent on Chinese food for 4 people and a full-on 'Let's do the timewalk' evening in full costume and makeup. Great fun.

I pretty much did the same. How could I not when it had hand controls for timing and mixture!

I've been with Mrs SiC long enough that she fully expected this to happen and that I'd be more interested in the car than her for the trip.

Its an xr3i, day after i bought it the neighbour reversed into the passenger door, couldn't be arsed to pain back the go faster stripes so decorated it (sticky back plastic)
Never used to have to show my id at the dockyard gates 😂
Wife hated it, but it was never going to get stolen
(BTW 3rd wife, now been married 26 years and my taste in cars hasn't improved)
