this was the rust concern that I had, spoke to the owner and had permission to treat the car as if it were my own. 2 days later £1000 worth of new parts Refurbed RHD power steering box Axle being built up with used old stock rhd swivel housings, new bearings and CV joints The car came with a 2" lift, relatively new springs, the customer wanted it low found these 1" lowered springs through Famousfour. Because of missing spacers and other crap we opted to reinstall the axle with new blue (comfort) polybush, new monroe standard dampers and lowered springs This car being 1990 GA suffix puts it in the same region as the CSK Range Rovers, so the loom has a 91 and onwards fusebox but 89 and prior connectors. the loom was only fitted to cars over about a 10 month production range, I have struggled to find a used solution, so the LHD loom with all the melted wires is off to Autosparks to see if they can make a pattern for me for RHD. Watch this space This is all that rot now cut out, rather than recreate the mud trap I opted for a cleaner and stronger solution that I use on my own car A couple of hours bashing steel and using the sparkly torch and it is very solid again, need a zinc coat and then seal seal the fuck out of it meanwhile pedal box is now installed to the correct side of the car. Interestingly on the LHD pedal box all pedals are bent over to the right to allow for a clutch foot rest. This box will NOT fit onto the rhd side. Luckily Tim Hammond has a barn full of parts that have allowed me to get this project to move forwards and there's more

All new brake lines were custom made by me in Kunifer and using quality metrix fittings, very satisfying this is under looking forwards, aside from the tons of sand and dust this thing is quite solid shame about the loom butchery that exists everywhere. This car has a later 200TDI and LT77 (55H) gearbox probably from a disco. I suspect that the transmission tunnel damage was when the front prop boke and smash the tunnel and probably the original LT77 to bits. IT would have originally had the 2.5 VM anyway new stub axle and cv joints were fitted after swivel preload was set on each side new wheel bearings were fitted to existing hub and disc (after a lot of cleaning to remove fucking gert big lumps of metal. and the brake lines to the existing refurb front callipers were finished. Bleeding will take place when I have finished the back axle lobbed the standard 205 tyred wheels back on and dropped it down, fuck me this thing is slinky low cannot wait to get it on the road and see how much better it handles! no arm on thuis age of RR, may end up being a phase 2 job blurred image of the original lhd loom and a 91 rhd loom that I was trying to fit parts from the car to. and kind of failed really lobbed the front wings and deck roughly in place and replaced the bonnet as it needs to be in the field for a week while I get a new concrete floor in my new workshop corner of the barn. Hang on, a press on fucking swivel bearings? What sort of lunatics are they? From memory they are just seated in place & various thicknesses of spacer fitted under the top pin to get the correct swivel pre-load.

Agreed that looks like a Disco Tdi, I know Defenders had the turbo much higher. Mind you I don't know what a RR Tdi looks like, I'd assume the same as a Disco.

it is the bearing seat that needs to be pressed into the swivel ball housing. I can only assume that a retarded gorilla did them on this car. oh and the swivel preload was wrong too, that is the shims bit that you are thinking about.

When I removed the steering damper it was rattling around like a dick in a bucket.

I am thinking disco engine and box at the same time because of the evidence that the front prop let go spectacularly at some point in the past, dents on the trans tunnel would certainly have wrecked the gearbox at the same time.

Ahh yes, I'd forgot they went that way around. It's been a couple of decades since I touched a LR swivel.

I sold my Disco 1 as no fucker could fix the swivel things.

But they are pretty simple, especially if you fill them with one-snot grease so they hardly leak.

Really? They're dead easy to replace.

Daily driver has been in dry dock Thursday, two issues, coolant leak and heater disconnected.

After a load of pissing about with a pressure check and an old expansion tank I was able to confirm that the heater matrix had failed. Only bought and fitted in August 2017, it failed in May 2019 and has been disconnected since I did video the removal process but failed to get many photos A short while later is ready to go back in toasty warm inside again This was finished Thursday, work on southpaw started Friday.....
