last bit for today

front springs off and chassis is now ready for me to align and line up bits to weld on

stripped one of the heads down, aside from all inlets being full of sand they came apart easily, all valves guides are as new! Rocker gear is more than serviceable

No sign that head gasket had failed however the hydrolock trauma means that I will reassemble and get it crack and pressure tested before going much further

That's an impressive amount of sand to get inside it, I get the feeling it wasn't at idle when it swallowed the water.

I've seen it done with lesser engines, but not a V8. Still comedy gold though.

Here I am cutting holes and steel for the rear damper mounts on Sandy the Landy 109 project. They had mysteriously been cut off and ground flat!?!

Fuel tank had to come off to weld the damper mounts on and was leaking anyway, terminally so. New tank is on order

The chassis is not unlike every other 40 year old Landie chassis! Patches over patches. Most of this passed Mr Tappy test of destruction, one hole opened up though

Crank from hydrolocked v8 I am sure is scrap - It needs crack testing and a fairly aggressive regrind. Rover v8s are not exactly sparse so I think it will be dead

If the shocker mounts had been ground off what on earth were the shockers fitted to?

The holley sits on an Offenhouser 360 Manifold. New redshed owner wants it original. This kit is going to sit nicely on project Bob

Spirit Level, right angle and tape measure helped me get the front bumper mounts aligned and welded back to the chassis

Welded on 3 sides, I will weld the underside when it is off the axles and upside down. Welding 3mm steel upside down is no fucking fun whatsoever

rear sill mounts were liberated from the arse end of the chassis. Looking to fix these next week

then the bobtail extension was cut free! The original chassis is really clean inside. Someone proper vandalised a tidy Range Rover here. Going to be a laugh getting it back to one bit
