This actually took ages to get right, the wiring was a pig to get in properly. The black dash frame is a good used replacement as mine was absolutely rotten from the sun. Sadly I couldn’t find a standard one that was good enough so I had to settle for a Ghia spec dash with the little grab handle on the passenger side. Not ideal but it’s the best I can do.
The dash facia should be black not wood effect but my original black one isn’t in the best condition and besides, I much prefer the wood effect ones so I’m having that!
The heater control has been stripped and cleaned, as has the original indicator/horn stalk. Just one stalk in this peasant spec car!

That is very impressive.

It's interesting to compare facts like a L only had one door mirror with all the stuff that even base model cars now have.

Back then being a base really did mean basic! Now even the low spec cars have loads in them.

I’ve got a sales brochure from Feb 74 which shows most of the differences between specs. I’ll try to get some pics of it and post them up in a min.

This has got to be a contender for some concourse awards once you are done!
Got to admire your impressive attention to the details

Cheers! Tbh I’m not really into shows, never have been.
I originally just wanted to give it a bit of a tart up and new paint but the more you dig into things like this the worse it gets so I ended up having it bare metalled just to be sure nothing got missed. It’s amazing what is hidden under filler and underseal!
I think I have let it get a bit out of control and over the top really since then, but on the other hand if I can get it really really good now and keep it like that it should be good for another 30 or 40 years. Maybe.
In a way, it’s like being given the opportunity to buy myself a brand new Capri but have it how I want and then be able to protect it with modern wax etc to stop the rust starting in a way they didn’t do back in the day.

Fantastic! I've missed this thread, it's a proper car being restored properly. Thanks for reposting it all Dan.

Oh I don’t know about ‘properly’! I haven’t powered it all up yet. It might explode or something after I’ve had my mits on it!

Cheers Jo.
That dash was/is proving to be a bit a bastard tbh. I don’t know if people have got bigger in recent generations or what but there’s absolutely fuck all space to work on it behind. Trying to get my hands in it has been a nightmare. There were a few things I screwed up though too, like forgetting to fit the fresh air vent ducting before the bulk of the dash and sound proof matting! It’s in now but my poor choice fitting it last didn’t make it easy. I’ll certainly remember for the next one though!
