Edit, found a pic online.
My brother had a Mk4 estate in that colour, one morning the battery was dead, he tried to bump start it down his drive but failed so ran it off onto the grass and took another car. He got to his workshop to hear the phone ringing. It was his neighbour from across the valley, asking when he was going to move it as he didn't want to look at it all day. (The car stayed there a few days because of that)

On the mirror thing, somebody did actually post a picture on here of a Mk1 Capri with those sweptback wing mirrors, can't be arsed to troll through all the picture loading timefucks now but it wasn't long ago.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

The Mk1 mirror is slightly different. Unless of course they used the new mirror on the last mk1’s?
The ones on mine have part numbers starting with 74 so first production in 1974, same year as the Mk2. Pretty sure the Mk1 version has a slightly different base shape as I did consider using a pair of those instead in the absence of these ones.

That’s probably the best way to do it. These came with nothing apart from the mirror, threaded studs and nuts. Both were the same and both were new old stock, still boxed even! Seems bizarre not having anything, even washers!
I don’t remember my other Capri (late Mk2/3 style) mirrors having anything with them either tbh, only the nuts. I’ve still got them somewhere so I’ll check and see but I’m sure there was nothing with them.

Fitting them using only the supplied nuts would probably have bent the door skin around the holes when tightened right up Id have thought.

Update time!

Various small menial bits and bobs have gotten done over winter, as & when. The car also sprang a leak from under the back end, which turned out to be brake fluid. Fortunately non of it got onto any painted surfaces and the cause was just a couple of loose pipe unions so once tightened the leak stopped.

More recent efforts have gone into getting it running properly and driving. So I went and got a Gerry can full of super unleaded, then for good measure added a dose of tetraethyl lead. Yeah, I don’t need it really as it’s got hardened inserts fitted, but fuck it! Next was check fluids. All good, but I poured a bit of fresh oil over the cam just so it wasn’t turning over dry to begin with.
Everything seemed ok otherwise so I chucked half the can of fuel into the tank then checked underneath for leaks, which there were none so I chucked the remaining half in too.
Hooked up the battery and went for the crank…
It took an absolute eternity to draw fuel up to the carb! I should really have primed it by filling the filter with fuel or dribbling fuel into the carb but I’d already put it all in the tank so couldn’t.

Anyway, predictably the battery went flat so had to be charged. It did manage to get fuel into the carb and run though by using the Volvo to jump start it.
The next day with the battery charged overnight it fired up pretty much straight away. It was a bit rough to begin with and it stank of fuel and really did not want to rev without stumbling and almost cutting out but it has improved since.
I left it running for a while to get warm and bleed the cooling system so while it was running I’ve tested all the electrical stuff in the car, and the only thing not working is the sodding fuel gauge! That’s when I noticed a slight problem…
