Senator and Royale

Post by Steveb »

Afternoon all,

Steve here from the other forum.

Update on the cars.

Both have the 3.0 injection straight 6-the senator has a 3 speed auto and the Royale 4 speed (original 2.8 and 3 speed was replaced by a later Monza set up).

The Senator is being taken for an MOT next wee-it's been up for a month or so. Apart from starting problems when warm and left for a while-it's driving very, very well. Need to get passenger window working and the central locking-it works from passenger side-but not from drivers key-broken wire in door.
Here's some pictures from today-moved it from garage to car port as I want to change a fuel pipe underneath-hoping it may cure the starting probs.

Royale's MOT has been up nearly a year! Needs a bit of welding which I need to get around to. Moved it from the carport today. Jumped in , started and the brake pedal went to the floor. Very little fluid in reservoir-topped up and had a bit of braking restored. Need to find where it's going-no evidence on floor-so could be leaking into servo.
Here it is today

Opel really used to know how to style cars in the 70s and 80s.
The Manta especially was a masterpiece in my view, the Broadspeed turbo one was my dream car for a long while to replace my Ascona 1.6s estate.

Mega-elegant cars theses are! The Royale reminds me of what a mark 2 cavalier Sportshatch May have looked like had they carried that style over from the mark 1.

The poshest neighbour in my childhood street ran his own firm and as soon as it did well he left the house one morning in a Chrysler Avenger GL and arrived back with a green Senator just like yours.

Planning to use them much? I bet they prefer being used to being laid up.

Nice cars.

There used to be a chap in Kidderminster who had a couple of these. I remember him restoring a white one. This was 20 years ago when they weren't classics, just seen as old bangers. I was impressed with what he was doing.

Love both of them, but the Senator is a car i'd love to cruise in...

Remember my Dad having a golden Opel Commodore, can't remember the year as too young... but remember him grumbling about putting a seatbelt on when the law kicked in...

Sorry getting off topic but thats nostalgia for you, lovely cars the pair of them and not seen any for a long time.

Thanks all,

The Senator will be used most days. I used to alternate between the Senator, Royale and my Sierra. Retired now so should have time to fix the Royale-there are two patches of welding to be done as well as the brakes.

Nice,I had a Royale identical to that back when I was working at a LR specialist garage
I'd parked undercover at this place when the sunroofs plastic clips all broke, and the owner scrapped it after we had 1 of "those" heated discussions.
That didn't end well.....
AMM222T was the reg,I still have the odd part for it here and there.....
