Windscreen chip repair
My youngest has just found a chip in his UPs windscreen.
He doesn't really want to go the insurance route as he's only been insured for less than a year and would probably get his next premium loaded.
I've looked online and the prices seem to vary from £30 at Halfords to £160+(!) at one of the major windscreen fitters. The latter obviously caters for the terminally stupid and Halfords have either 5 star or 1 star reviews which doesn't fill me with confidence. The reviews of DIY kits are also not very confidence inspiring.
Are there any that you guys would recommend? He lives in Oxford.
Thanks

Re: Windscreen chip repair
A windscreen repair / replacement shouldn't load his premium.
I had the windscreen in my Disco replaced last week. I called my insurance company beforehand, they confirmed that there'll not be a loading on my premium as a result.

Re: Windscreen chip repair
Thanks John,
I think that this is normal but to be honest don't entirely trust them.
His policy is pretty expensive as he doesn't have a years no claims yet I'm really looking at the options.
He'd have to pay the excess anyway so if he can get it done for say £30-50 without the insurance company being involved then that's the route I'm going to recommend.

Re: Windscreen chip repair
Hmm OK, but a lot of insurance companies don't even charge an excess for a stonechip repair. I'd give them a call anyway.

Re: Windscreen chip repair
I've had screens replaced & chips done, neither have loaded the premium that I've been aware of.

Re: Windscreen chip repair
Point taken guys.
I'll get him to look at the details of his policy, which I don't have access to, and make that call.
I'd assumed that there was a excess charge for stonechip repair by looking at the repairers websites but if there isn't it changes the situation.

Re: Windscreen chip repair
Stone chips are normally free, screens are often about £80 excess in my experience.

It used to be mine, I thought it was a great little car.
I realise that saying that is probably a banning offence on here...

Isn't an Up what a Polo should be these days if it hadn't turned into a Gulf?
