Eddie Honda's wheels of steel (and occasionally alloy)

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Er....no. I thought there was a cylinder head on it, but when I turned a corner of bin liner up that is over the top of the engine, I only saw a new gasket. Must have the head somewhere else.

Jizz update

NCT is booked for 10:10 this morning.

Just after 9pm Monday night, the appointments were looking like this. No fucking good that, Expiry is 31/10. You can present 90 days early. There is suppose to be a 28 day or money back thing but if you accept a later one you don't get any money. Playing that game is a phone job and even then they'll try every trick in the book to avoid it. I've succeeded once, but even then I had to pay first and claim it back even though I shouldn't have paid in the first place.

Randomly refresh the page at work and a cancellation popped up around 1am.

Was fannying around with the tailgate lock last night. It's a bit fucked in it doesn't always unlock (TADTS). Having perused the most recent manual, it only has to latch in the locked position. Think I'll leave it and have the RTFM argument if they are being pricks.

The tailgate lock must be a honda trait. Ask Split pin the joy his has given him.

I've never experienced stale fuel. Is it even a thing?
I've had stale fuel in things that havent run forever* they start fine but are a bit lumpy & down on power till you refill the tank.

Tell that to this fucking Merc 190. It has been sitting 7 years and the carb is a right mess. I am waiting for an ultrasonic cleaner to turn up so I can hopefully get the carb to work properly for more than a couple of miles. God knows what happened to the fuel but it was green and has gummed up most things in the carb.

It was years ago I last had something left for years with fuel in, I suspect this damn ethanol goes mouldy or something these days.

Headlamp alignment > needs to go back on lane > €28 retest fee.

Everything else fine. I had changed a headlight bulb in the last year. Equally it could of been when Mrs H clouted some bollards. Might change lamps before alignment (they've always been cloudy since I've had it). Local motor factors is €160 a lamp, but RH not available for at least a couple of weeks. Might polish up the lights instead, I've only a RH one spare from other Jizz.

17,475 miles since last test 10/10/20 (only done 16,794 miles between 28/06/19 and 10/10/20, even with the 4 months The Covid™ extension) Car bought at 10 years old @68249 miles averaging less than 7k miles p.a. Now averaging 15k miles p.a. In the last 6 years spent around €25k in total, half of that is petrol, the rest is Purchase price (£1650)+ registration tax, total €2.6k, Motor Tax €3k, Insurance €2.7k and the remaining €4.2k on repairs, towbar, tyres, brakes, self-servicing etc. I haven't even totted up the tolls yet.... Call it 27 eurocent per mile.
