Eddie Honda's wheels of steel (and occasionally alloy)

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

That structural duct tape has been there since I bought it back in 2008. The PO did include in the sale a NOS NSF door for a GSA and as the door handle cutout is wrong, also a NSF door skin for a GS. The obvious idea being to reskin the GSA door and get it painted. Apart from that it wasn't in too shit a state when parked up. I just needed to find the mojo to pull the whole front end off as the clutch needs doing. Book time is about 8.5 hours.

My GSA had structural duct tape before its 2nd MOT! Tailgate "handle" (it was in reality just the bit of trim one used to lift the hatch up after unlatching) had insufficient layers of steel left to which to adhere. Rusted to fuck.....

Newest car I've owned by a long way and one of the rustiest. Apart from that Gallic foible, it was fun to drive - despite as Eddie reports - being WWD and a Shitroen (Shitroenphile I am not) and remains one of the most comfortable cars I've owned. My God, though, it just fell apart. M'lud.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

TOOL PORN

Well it's a month since I last spunked some cash and I thought I'd get a couple of short socket rails for last month's socket purchase.

But couldn't help adding these two black boxes to the order.

Inside them are ¼" drive and ⅜" drive ratchets (belated Xmas treat or some other flimsy excuse) - LYNEHAMHERC
EDITION.

They might look like something for a display case in a granny annexe, but I'll be using them.

No display cases in ours, just paintings.

RIALTO UPDATE

I was going to do some grovelling under the car before work today, but decided to do half 'n' half and have a bash at removing the passenger seat. At least on this side the front support tubing hasn't rusted and collapsed.

Two saddle clips and four ¼" UNF bolts. Should be easy enough? (Er, excuse the rusty push rods and moss)

The outer bolts that are threaded into rivnut-type inserts were looking quite well and their heads hexagonal. They even came out without spinning the inserts.

The inner ones however were rusty swollen and after picking off the rust, I had considerably less metal left to hold onto and there was no way a 7/16" AF socket was going to anything.

Out came various non-impact and impact stuff and the manual impact driver. Beat a 9.5mm Nut Twister onto the head with a 16oz hammer and actually got some purchase on the cunt.

Things got moving and then remembered to get something on the other side to stop things spinning

Then half way off, I was loosing grip, but with a bit of lift, I could hold it with some moles.

Which might be original. Someone's random replacement would unlikely be a Binx nut.

Had to call time at that. Still to get the fourth one out that isn't quite as easy to access. Plus there's a couple more that hold the rear part of the inner runner to the floor.

Glacial progress, but it's progress all the same.

When the nut chewer is out and the other end starts spinning, I'm getting the grinder on the job.

That works better if you have a cordless grinder (or can be arsed getting the extension reel out), find the goggles, find the ear defenders, find the gloves, find the bloody pin spanner for the broken disc in the grinder that "was only just seen the other day"...

As you saw from the other side, I wasn't prepared to cut the chassis leg open if those outer ones were like they were.

HAVEN'T YOU DONE IT YET? UPDATE

Saturday was squandered by getting sucked into playing Mario Kart on the Wii. Earlier in the week I decided the kids* needed me to acquired the game and a couple of Wii wheels.

Sunday, despite it drizzling saw the fourth seat bolt removed. The bolt head wasn't as grim and would take a 6-point 10mm followed by a 10mm Nut Twister. The nut underneath ended up with the mole grips.

Seat out and front bar doesn't look too fucked.

Unhooked the wee spring and tore through what little was left of the inner rail.

Next is this outer channel. If you look closely, there are two rusty countersunk cross heads there.
