Eddie Honda's wheels of steel (and occasionally alloy)

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Once the workbench gets sorted out I'll recommence the axle refurb. Intention is to get it mobile, get a ticket, wince at premiums the licenced robbers will charge for a 15+ yo car and perhaps run it for a bit. One 'upside' is misery Paddy spec means 954cc, which means bottom band motor tax €199

It was only offroaded because usual Pug rear rot - inner wheel arches and adjoining boot floor edges that went. Offside is sort of fixed and the other I've yet to start. Mission creep set in and the axle and tank were removed for access/safety and refurb.

TOOL PORN

Every so often it's time to spunk away some money on some stuff to fix things with. So I headed over to baldy fella's Japanese shop, to see what would be available to ship here. Ordered on the 13th Dec. Amazon ETA 22nd. DHL ETA 20th. Actual delivery 17th, having been shipped on the 14th. BLOODY QUICK!

A couple of years ago you may remember I bought some 3/8" drive Ko-ken Nut Twister sockets as I was fucked off with all the sawing / grinding / drilling I had to do to get the front / mid exhaust sections separate on the Jizz.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4&start=60#p4851

However they were from UK Tools and an odd set I've not seen in the catalogue (they list a 3127/8 with 8,9,10,11,12,13,14,16mm). The 3127/7 set I have is 8,10,12,13,14,17,19mm. Looking back it was expensive at £120, but to me it was worth the time saved and less pissing about in getting things free. That was only a couple of years ago and now they are priced at £187! Fucking hell!

After all the farting around with the Rialto driver's seat, I decided to splash out and fill in the gaps in the set as it's a bit gappy down the lower end. So I got the other five: 9, 9.5, 11, 15, 16. Should give me a fighting chance if the seat bolts on the passenger side are anything like the driver's side.

The rest of it is a rail of twelve 3/8" Z-EAL sockets (RS3400MZ/12) and the sizes above and below. So I put all twelve Nut Twisters on the posh 12" magnetic rail

And next time I get round to it, I'll get a pair of short 8" rails for the Z-EAL sockets and some moar bits and pieces.

First impressions are they are SHORT and the fit on my mediocre Britool ratchet is snug. The tolerances are tighter on these Z series sockets so they don't flop around on the square drive (or fasteners).

MOAR TOOL PORN

Ordered some other stuff from the baldy fella's UK shop and a couple of items turned up this afternoon via Amazon Logistics. The rest is due via DPD on Tuesday (but suspect possibly Monday because it's got as far as the hub pre-weekend)

I think JIS is integrated into ISO now. They certainly make universal tips that fit both.

I'm sure the No. 2 that's due will be good for attacking carb tops with.

TOOL PORN PART 3

DPD bloke rang the bell at 1210 and was back in his van by the time I ran to open the door. Cunt was well ahead of his 1317-1417 window. No wonder leaving it on the doorstep and bolting that quick.

First up some cheap shit bits should I need to attack some rivnuts on the Reliant again.

New air coupling on the tug at work - this pin has to go, it's a pain in the hole when shunting having to line the cutout to pull the collar back. Originally, these tugs are sans pin.

COMPUTER CHAIR

My computer chair of world domination has a couple of issues. First the strut is buggered. It's a replacement that didn't last long and sinks. Second is that it doesn't roll very well when seated. I put hard floor castors on it in the past, but the problem was the spider.

The plastic is very rigid, but not rigid enough.

With the castors statically off-vertical, when I put my fat arse in the seat, the arms of the spider twist further, thus impeding smooth movement. It's got on my tits enough to do something about it.

Yesterday the chair spider arrived. And was easily assembled with supplied ten bolts and Allen key.

Transferred the castors over and spent quite a while hammering fuck out of the old one with a rubber mallet to free the tapers.

New strut and back in business again, although the lowest the chair goes is higher than before. Now I could do with a slightly higher desk. COCK!
