Eddie Honda's wheels of steel (and occasionally alloy)

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

That's slightly* more constructive that "It'll be where you last left it."

Yesterday I went down the motor factors to get some bits and bobs

For Jizz:

And for general / cracking on with Rialto (the kids will think* I am Edd China['s slowest cousin] ):

Whilst I was waiting for a cylinder head epiphany, I dragged out Henry to do some sucking up. Mainly rust from the remnants of the seat runners, but also dog hairs from the upholstery.

There was a shadow of text in the adhesive remaining on the car, so to prove it wasn't in the paint to the kids, I got some T-Cut out. Just look at the that 3" square of beige glossiness!

Then I put it away again for fear of getting carried away and becoming a two-bucket wrong'un

The rear lamp lenses are a bit loose. Wonder what horrors lie beneath? They are PMG 9090 series as fitted to loads of kits, Westfields, etc. Should be too difficult to source locally if I have to as they also appeared on some Massey Fergussons #ooohaaarh

Something has just come back to me now.

New memory is that the new valves were held in place in the head by some rather gay rubbery clothes pegs. I haven't found a photo to corroborate this, but it's clear as day now.

Now I'm beginning to think it's in a green crate/box that may or may not have a new 32ICH Weber carburettor in it.

Whether it is here or stuck the other side of the water is yet to be determined.

Given up on that idea as my nut welding skillz has deserted me today. Mr Angry Grinder it is then (although the main two in the picture are a PITA because they're into the chassis and so B side ain't accessible.)

Jizz update
LynehamHerc wrote: Fri Oct 15, 2021 12:16 pm So when's the Jizz going back for its NCT?
Well I couldn't get earlier, so re-booked for Thu 21st @16:15.

A day before the retest I got round to looking at the headlights. Both motors were making noises, but I wasn't seeing any movement. Fannied around and undid the top and sides of the front bumper and removed the OS headlamp. In my stash in the silver Jizz, I had a very good OS one with a crystal clear lens, so I just replaced it. The other side was a bit shit shit though, but I only had a spare motor for that side, so put that on having fitted the Night Breakers and left it at that.

Both were motoring up and down now. At this point I gave up for the night as I'd started quite late in the day.

In the morning I went to the nearest garage to see if they had a alignment box, but they were busy and suggested coming back the next day. I went round to another that got his alignment box out, but was sucking his teeth about the NS lamp. I said I'd come back later after seeing what I could do with it. Now they've always been crap on this car, but I've never bothered polishing the fuck out of them because I suspect most of the crap was on the inside.

Sure enough, after dicking around with the headlamp polishing kit when I got back home, I had a slightly clearer lens, but to actually make a decent job of it, I'd have to pull it out again and separate the lens from the unit and clean the inside up. I couldn't be arsed with that and time was running short with Mrs H having to pick the kids up from school.

When she got back (later than usual), the traffic was crap and I rushed down the garage, a slight* misunderstanding arose resulting in garage not being arsed and me going away empty handed, but by then the appointment was out of reach anyway. Just had to take the €11.50 hit on the re-test for a no-show.

The lights were way too high on a trip down the pez station to get fags on Saturday, so I fannied around with them on the drive to pull them down a bit. Took the car and some measuring things to work on Sunday. On another trip out on my break I could see that the offside was way to low and right and the Nearside was a bit low and right.

It was quiet as Monday was a bank holiday here. Got the chalk out and did me sums for about a 100mm drop @ 7.5m

Pulled the offside up before moving to the right

Back online to look for a slot, but it's looking like Sunday 31st. Bah.

I go to work last night in the car as the tank is empty. The light came on the day before at 340 miles, but there's loads to spare so I just crack on, not bothering to stop on the way home at the Texaco, because the robbers are 3c per litre dearer than home. Pulled into the pez station to fill up at 397 miles.

Fuck me, I've gone back to 2012! (May 2020 when the oil price went negative, I was filling up at a mere 117.8c)

Giffered it into work and briefly saw 69.9 mpg twice, but parked up at 69.6 mpg after 25 miles.

Kept checking the NCT site, and just after midnight and saw a 7:40am appointment pop up. Fuck it, I'll just have it. Giffered it back home and was reading 68.3. Got all of four hours kip and I'm up at 6.45am. Fall out the door at 7.00am and trundle down to the test centre for 7.20am. Wait outside for a bit then get to checked-in, car is taken immediately and back onto the start of the lane when the alignment checks are done.

Job done for another year.

Trundled back home via the garage for a breakfast roll and home before 8am, it must be all downhill. (Mrs H will ruin all that effort now, it'll be well down when she gets back)

I'm quite stressed after reading that. Partner always fucks up my good economy. I'm not sure what she actually does to get it so bad. I can't get it as low as her even after ragging it.
I don't rate nightbreakers. The put out plenty of light but don't last cery long at all. I was sick of changing the fuckers in my v70.

My missus often ruins mine as she's usually in 3rd when I'd be in 4th or 5th. Stopping to natter to friends she sees at the side of the road and still leaving the engine running doesn't help.
