Camping shite

Post by fraser »

Can anyone think of a good reason why I don't buy this combo. FFS it has underfloor heating, and a proper full sized bed. Thinking of doing some European jaunts now we are allowed back there.Image

I don't think I've ever seen a fifth wheel setup in the UK before. Is it on a normal car licence?

There are quite a few over here, the showmen like them as do Murrican enthusiasts. Probably a far better idea than a coach-type RV over here simply because you have a useable vehicle when not towing and one that bends in the middle when you are.

Check how the braking system works, US type electronic brakes aren't legal here as far as I know.

The Isuzu can tow 3000kg. The caravan is 2900kg when fully loaded. The Isuzu is 1900kg, so you need a 7.5ton licence. Grandad right ftw!
As far as brakes are concerned, the Isuzu is fully compliant with all UK regs.

But what about the trailer unit brakes, yank units don't comply with our construction and use regs hence the comment about brakes

First hit on Google - no idea how much use it is

When I worked on the fairgrounds the bosses daughter used one of the prime movers to tow her 5th wheel rig about, that was huge with all the usual pull outs etc, that was running air brakes.

Do you fuck need a "7.5 ton" licence.

BE is all you need. (3500kg + 3500Kg)

C1 is 3501 - 7500kg motor vehicle + up to 8 passenger seats.
C1E is towing vehicle + trailer doesn't exceed 12000kg

Thanks for that, I thought you added them together. Does that mean that with the new changes, anyone can drive it?

I don't think I would want to tow that as you are only 100kg off the max and just one fat bloke extra and you could be over. Also just because it is rated to tow 3 ton doesn't mean it will be comfortable. I used to tow Rolls Royce on my old trailer which was a proper Brian James 16ft bed using a Discovery. The disco was rated for 3.5 ton but it really was not a nice experience dragging that much weight (RR was 2250kg 700kg trailer so under the 3.5t limit)
1939 Hotchkiss 864
1966 Rover P5 (for sale)
1971 Lancia Fulvia Berlinetta (also for sale)
1977 Dodge 3700GT Hearse
1987 Renault 25 V6 Turbo
2010 Skoda Felica tdi
2013 Peugeot RCZ

The 2.9 ton weight stated by the company includes 40 gallons in the water tank, 40 gallons in the black tank, and 40 gallons in the gray tank. The maximum weight of water is around 4kg a gallon, so there's 500kg's immediately.
This is towed using a fifth wheel, which is much more stable than what we consider a normal trailer.
