That's a sweet looking thing.....Note the Consul 315 emblem on these European market cars, no "Classic" badging and were never referred to as anything other than Consul 315 over there. Ford oval on the bonnet is an add-on, all cars regardless of market had the "Consul 315" roundels.
Late lowline MK2 Consuls gained the "375" suffix at the same time. Don't ask me what either means though, it is as arcane as Ford's "E" numbering.....116E for RHD Classics, 117E for LHD cars.

I'm sure our Mk 1 Cortina had a Consul badge on the bonnet.

Yes, the pre-Aeroflow cars had that - it was changed to "Cortina" on the air vent cars.

When the Mk2 big Fords went to the Mk3 Ford were keen to move the range upmarket and lose the "Consul" tag which had become more associated with taxis and family motoring than the brave new world of Junior Executives.

The new 4 cylinder big car would be Zephyr 4 but in order to retain the good name built up by Consuls, the prefix was used in conjunction with all the forthcoming new family-size cars - a new slot for the Ford range between Anglia/Prefect and the big cars started by the Consul Classic/Consul Capri. Following on were Consul Cortina and Consul Corsair.

Eventually, after the demise of the Classic/Capri (only 3 year production for these) the Cortina and to a lesser extent the Corsair stood on their own four wheels as established model ranges and the Consul part was quietly dropped. It was of course resurrected as a lower-level choice on the 1972 Granada range but again found itself a rather confusing and unnecessary appendage.

Never heard of a consul corsair. Hardly surprising as almost never see them, seem to have dropped into the hinterland of undesirable classic with sd1 rovers and what ever else.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

Would the Consul Corsair be the pre-crossflow 1500 they had before V4 ones?

The "Consul" bit was dropped at almost the same time (or a little bit before) the V4 was adopted but broadly yes....

I need another project like a hole in the head but having sold the Bentley there is an opening in the fleet for a turbo charged 4 seater.
