Yesterday evening I got the tank bolted in. Ended up being more of a palavour than I expected.

Firstly this oil fill pipe (after wrapping in tape) was just refusing to go on. After a lot of oil, it eventually popped on after copious swearing.

For anyone that has to do this and is reading this, firstly I salute you. Secondly undo this pipe clamp in the wheel arch - top right is the brake pipe ferrel for reference.

Then undo this clamp - above the tyre in this picture.

After spilling a my jug with a litre of coolant in, I did a further top up of coolant to fill the tank up. A quick startup confirmed no major leaks.

Next was replacing the fuel filter. On post facelift cars the fuel filter went to in-tank jobs like most modern cars. Pre-facelift there is a canister type. No record of this filter being changed, especially as the Porsche dealer services don't list the part being changed.

It lives up in the middle of the car. Not a huge amount of access to get it out. Wish I jacked the car up more.

Old filter was date coded 2013, so looks like it has been changed.

After that, just a warm up using the Porsche recommended procedure. Then wheels on, drop car, top engine access cover back on and carpets back in.

Job jobbed.

I dread to think what this all would have cost to get done at a specialist, let alone a Porsche dealer. About £800 in parts and probably 6-8 hours labour minimum. Roughly I reckon it's rads 3 hours for pair, water pump 1 hour, tank 3 hours, coolant change+bleed 0.5 hours and plugs+coils another 1 hour. For me double that as I'm slow and working under stands.

Now time to swap cars around, get it back out of the garage and go for a test drive!

That has got to be a euphemism

My posts are always full of typos, despite reading through to check! Not helped by almost always writing all these posts on a mobile phone.

Hah, I hadn't noticed the typo tbh.

If it's not, you need to make it so!

It'd need trailered, even if I rent a trailer and find somebody else to pull it (I neither have a tow car or a trailer license).

If it does get shifted anywhere it'd be up to my parent's place near Strathdon as they have a big detached garage with electricity and it's been long enough since I last occupied their property with fucked vehicles they aren't entirely opposed to storing one for a bit...

Obvious downside is the car being 130 miles and 3 hours drive away from where I actually live, but I can easily go up there for a weekend and sleep on the couch...

Naturally this will have to be done post lockdown, not that there is any rush at this point anyway...
This was my first unread post and I haven't read the following pages, so apologies if the situation has changed. The lad who transported the bike I sold from my place down to Coatbridge last week seemed a good sort and quite cheap. About £110 he said for a car from Angus to the Central Belt provided he has a job going in the other direction. Since you're not in a hurry, he could maybe fit it in with another job over the coming weeks. I've got his number if you want to ring him for a quote.

The plan has actually changed twice since that post.

Firstly David Fowler was going to tow it up on a trailer (£50 rental), latterly somebody in Wishaw has offered me some workshop space which is more practical to commute to on a regular basis for a few weeks.

It's possible the plan will change many times before lockdown allows anything to occur though, so I'll bear it in mind. Cheers for the heads up!

Hit abort on the 1800 purchase. It's a car I want to have a go in but I know I'll get bored of quickly. E.g. I wanted an XJ6/XJ8 for years. Ended up winning the XJ6 that Eddie has now. Drove around in it for a month and got bored quickly. Big wafty saloons are just not my thing. Having the Boxster and MGB back on the road reminded me of this. I like something with a bit of zest - handling and ideally performance.

Chatting to the seller on AS about this, he completely understood. I was completely prepared for buying it just to keep my word but he was happy to cancel. It also helps him as he is likely to get more on the open market anyway.

Anyway, that was Saturday. Yesterday I won a car on eBay. Worldofceri is delivering on Thurs...

Nervous as I've not seen it and the seller seems a bit of a "character". Also going to have to do a bank transfer remotely while Ceri waits.
