That one on the left looks like a Teves pad used on Beetles/DAFs/NSUs. Fuck knows what that one on the right is.

Sounds about right, they're both for Datsun except the bigger is either for an 80s Sunny or a bigger model like a 180.

The one on the left looks like an Allegro pad, which also did for many other cars of the era. It is more than likely your Datsun utilised these pads. What braking system does it have?

I got the freelander clutch finished this morning. It was a complete twat getting the gearbox back in without dropping the lower suspension mounts and removing the IRD unit as youre told to do in the manual. Felt like the gynaecologist decorating his hall through the letterbox.

I filled up the gearbox with its special MT94 oil and noticed that there was some jelly like stuff left in the bottle. Rang up the maker and was told do not use, the code says it's over 5 years old. This is presumably because the delicate Rover box needs liquid cotton wool additive so another needless expense and delay as I went out to buy more. Similarly the intermediate box has to have special lube which cost more.
The clutch pedal still goes right to the floor before disengaging, and I elongated the holes in the notoriously weak cylinder bracket (I previously had to weld the shitty thing back together).

I shall try it out this afternoon, but overall I've had enough of mending this wankbox.

Stuck old pads back in Datty calipers this morning, plenty of thickness left in em; I sanded them flat and parallel too. No leaks and she seems to pull up well enough for a 70s machine.
This afternoon I got back on the Saab 96 and put the front wings and front panel back on. The replacement offside doesn't fit quite right, not because of any distortion through welding, I think the bolt in the valance which has a captive nut and which the bumper fits to is slightly too high. Will enlarge the cutout in the wing so it sits better.
It's a pleasure to see the car back to looking a bit more car-like after 3 yrs or so. I feel quite enthusiastic about it again. There have been a few times when I've wondered why the fuck I'm bothering

Half a days work today and then went off with the old man to look at another Z. A roadster this time in blue, 60K on the clock, FSH and pretty bloody tidy for a 15 year old car. Only thing against it really is it's had a few more owners than I'd have liked. The hood is a little iffy at the very bottom of it by the doors so need to look into a repair or something to rejuvenate the fabric a bit at the very least. He got 6 months road tax thrown in, asking price was 6K. Not sure when he's going to collect it but a deposit was put down. Most laid back professional salesman I think I've ever met at Charnwood cars in Leomington Spar. It's got a nearly new stainless system on it so at least it sounds the part.
