Does it have hydrulic tappets ? It is not unheard of for the oil to drain out and make them sound like no compression and just needs a load of winding over as if it has flooded (foot to the floor). Check the belt properly first though to make sure it is all correct as that is the most likely offender.

Re: What did you do today?
I stood and watched as my mobile mechanic mate and his son fitted the new brake master cylinder and bled the brakes on my Impala. There is a much improved pedal feel now so later this week I shall take it on a test/shakedown drive via the Esso garage where I shall cry as I fill the tank with some super unleaded. Of course it would have been better if he hadn't postponed his visit from Friday to today bearing in mind that there was an American car event just up the road yesterday, attending in my Focus just isn't the same

Re: What did you do today?
Took my dad a birthday card and a bar of fruit and nut (family size, I'm not a tight wad).
His Jag had been running shite and he thought it might be cheap petrol, so last week I drained the tank (almost) and he put some super in it. Still ran shite and was clearly not firing on one bank as one exhaust was cold.
He took it to have some old school diagnostics done and it turned out to be a distributor and coil problem.
One socket badly corroded and one contact had got rather hot.
Apparently this is the coil although I wouldn't have recognised it as such.

That's more like a motorcycle type coil, they don't appreciate getting too hot, I'm guessing but if it was arcing that much to get that terminal got enough to melt the cap it may also have knackered one banks coil

That corroded socket on the top of the cap doesn't match the burnt out contact, oddly.

Re: What did you do today?
No Ronda updates yet I’m afraid, when it happened I needed to be somewhere else and I had to abandon it at his and borrow his Mondeo. Didn’t have time to investigate really.
My dad said he’ll take a look but he’s in no rush to do anything unless he’s being nagged by my mum (I.E DIY jobs) so I can see it sitting there for a few days until he decides to have a look at it. On the plus side, his Mondeo has working air con which is lovely at the moment. I’ll also be able to make use of the vast hatchback to transport a few things I’ve needed to move for a while but couldn’t fit in the Rover, so there is that I suppose.
In other news, I have finally (after a year of searching!) located a towbar through the Rover 600 group on FB. The chap seems very friendly and easy to deal with, he’s already said he’s willing to remove it from his breaker and pack it up for me to collect via courier. Just waiting for him to remove it, it should have been today but I haven’t heard anything yet.
As I have a perfectly good (ish) trailer once owned by Des from AS (whatever happened to him?) just sitting there doing nothing, I should be able to make use of it once I’ve got the towbar fitted.

Is Des not still on the beige side then? One of the fellas I did miss from my time there.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

No, he’s long gone. A quick glance at his profile shows he hasn’t been logged in since November 2020.mercrocker wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 6:50 pm Is Des not still on the beige side then? One of the fellas I did miss from my time there.
I hope he’s ok, I only met him the once but he came across as a very friendly, interesting and knowledgeable chap with a good sense of humour. He wasn’t mega old, maybe 50s, but with the pandemic who knows.
Back in 2020 he was planning to sell his house in the shithole of Watford and move away, not sure if that happened.
