You'd best scrap it & let xtriple export it for scrap value if it's going to keep doing that.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
I would, and it's good that it would be MoT exempt- how's about I weld the sills up first? They're non structural structure by the rules but still, they've seen better decades.
I just replaced it with the spare. I figured that was a better choice...

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
I'm impressed.
I did a round trip tonight of 33 miles at an amazing 6.7 mpg.
Climate improvement underway.

Almost.
I wasn't hanging about and was curious to see how the car would pull through the full rev range (answer: you get noise not progress) which is a good way to empty the fuel tank out through the exhaust.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Very wide but very flat.
It's got a lot of low end torque, peaking at 2200 rpm.
Maximum power at 3800.
By 2500 rpm it's starting to get strained.
It'll burble along happily all day at 450 rpm though.
It's happiest about 1750 rpm or so, everything gets into a harmonic balance, it's really quiet and smooth and the fuel economy improves to about 9-10mpg.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
It does sound a lovely relaxing engine to burble around behind with it revving that low.
