Just in time to think about boarding the garage back up again, there's the possibility of two hurricanes early next week.

Loaded both cars up into the garage. Going to board it up over the weekend. Great fun.

Piece for the window assembly arrived though.

Got creative tonight and used a length of wire insulation to go over the end of the glass, to allow the sash channel to grab. Not perfect but it does go up and down now with care.

Had to resort to similar modifications* with the Cowley, they mostly work now! I still can't get the front passenger one to go fully down - thought I'd fixed it but it still needs help. As I have put my good door card on it and a (bin-liner!) membrane I don't really want to strip it again. Mrs Rocker is quite happy as she can preserve her hair-do much better with only half a window open.....

That reminds me of the halogen conversion I fitted to my Midget, the lip on the lamp unit was too thin for the clamps on the headlight bowl. That got the outer insulation from mains cable around it so it fitted. It was still there about eight years later when I sold the car.

Pulled the glass out of the back door and got the sash channel gently eased onto it. That's now holding the glass flat.

Got the machinist freed off and the top bar back into the fixed runner. Put the glass back in and got it going up and down.

Fixed the rear vent brace in, stuck the loose window channel back in with semi flexible adhesive which should be set by tomorrow.

That brings me to all windows operational, which is a good thing in summertime.

Gave the glass a deep clean. Discovered why the rear right mechanism falls out of the runners, the plate that screws to the door on the inside has a stop on it.

Naturally, that piece is missing from my car.

Next up, driver's side windshield. Significantly grubby, most of the glass is covered to some degree in clear-coat overspray from when the roof was done.

Thorough cleaning saw it much better. I have since removed the Joint Auxiliary sticker because it was out of date, I'm not part of it and the Louisiana inspection sticker has to go there.

Next, I removed the rear view mirror because it wouldn't stay clipped in the daytime position.

Screwdriver to carefully pry the front cover off and it all fell apart.

Cleaned the glass and the finger plate (yuk), and straightened the little arms up that hold it to the glass. They'd become slack over the years and the plate was moving in relation to the mirror and as such the spring would never go over-center and stay there. Hopefully that fixes it.

I tried scrubbing the case because it was nasty and covered in years of cigarette gunge but it wouldn't come see clean as I would like, so it has gone in the dishwasher and should come out all nice and shiny tomorrow morning.
