In those days you had to adjust the charge rate manually.

Well I have been slogging away at the scrapper's cylinder head, but still not unseized the engine despite heating the pots, next step will be more brutal involving a sledgehammer and a block of wood.

I wanted to clean the cylinder head up and lap the valves in so it's ready to re-fit. This includes dismantling the rocker gear.

Which I abandoned as the rocker standards are absolutely seized solid and nothing will budge them.

So I turned to my other spare engine (the one which I discovered is low compression). The rocker gear was free on this and came apart easily but appears to be badly worn.

However I persevered and cleaned it all up, if it rattles excessively or is otherwise noisy I'll hunt for new parts.

The worn areas are obviously high load where the action of the pushrods and valve springs pushes the rockers upwards, wearing into the shaft.

Rotate the shaft 180 degrees so the wear is in the unloaded area?

Rocker shafts on A series are a consumable. Scrap it.

Bit harsh? Why not just get a new rocker shaft?

Unless the screen washers don't work?
