I am pleased to report that my old station wagon is mobile once more and the axle seems to be a success. I was out for about two hours today just driving around locally to test everything.

And as a nice little job after the big one, I wired up my Smiths mirror clock. There is a switch on it which operates a backlight for telling the time in darkness. An ingenious little gadget.

I had a play with the Vanguard. Nice to see such refinements as a grease nipple on the gear change mechanism and the water pump. Also they have an electric screen washer, as standard. Not many cars could boast any form of screen washer then, let alone an electric one.

The dirty birds have been fouling the car, as the tree has grown over the years many have taken to it to roost. Not a problem, providing they don’t settle over my car.

It didn’t take me long to find the culprits. They were reluctant to move at first but soon came round to the idea when I produced a large stick. They took off to the roof of the house and obviously decided I wasn’t a threat to their retirement plans and flew back into the tree, fortunately another part this time.

Superb, that Standard.....I just had a good look through the thread again. Very under-rated car in my opinion and nice to see one getting some love.
Unfortunately too many were butchered in the 1970s - not so much the banger boys (although they culled plenty) but getting robbed of running gear for crappy TR2/3 restorations.
My mate back then cut a few up which I continually wrung my hands about but we always bombed them about for a while first - great memories. One day I shall make it up with a Vanguard, particularly the early ones like this with the bone through the nose and big round tail lamps.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......
I have made the last headlamp harness for my Humber Snipe. The headlamps take the old P45t bulbs so changing to more powerful Halogen bulbs is possible, when I can obtain the bulbs.

It looks like the wires were transposed at the factory and someone later crudely swapped them over, as the earth wire is untouched.

Lucas sold these DIY adaptors for those wishing to convert to sealed beam units, which of course have the same 3-prong connection as the P45t.

They are ideal requiring no skill or tools to assemble. There must have been nothing Lucas didn’t market in those days. Now I just have to find another halogen bulb, which seems to be the hardest part.

What's so hard about obtaining conversion Halogen bulbs with the old P45t bases? e.g. Lucas LLB012
