What a peculiar advert. I expect Rootes/Chrysler felt some closure publicity was necessary after they stopped making the traditional big Humbers. I filled it up the other day. The cold weather combined with limited local use has resulted in fuel consumption falling to 13 omg mpg.

Prolonged warming up doesn't help fuel consumption either.....I reckon the Cowley is down to sub-20 at the moment as well. I can remember Arrow Sceptres coming out - even though I was only 7, it didn't need explaining to me that one was being fobbed off with a posh Hunter.

There was a very distinctive Series Super Snipe estate round our way which belonged to the Rothschild family and was registered FLY5. I wondered if they were going to get a posh Hunter. They didn't - the car was replaced with a Crayford Austin 3 litre estate. I loved growing up in the Sixties.....

It was truly the class system translated to wheels. Like that recent day at the races photo.

A disappearing world, unfortunately.....Last time I saw FLY5 it was on a Mk2 Granada and DVLA says it is on a Land Rover now. Quite an old one....

Fashions were changing and anything old fashioned was just unsaleable by 1970 as BLMC found out with the 3 Litre. Rootes axed the big cars at just the right time. The early 'Arrow' Sceptre was a nice thing but Chrysler soon started cost cutting and it just became another badly made British shitbox.

Those Chrysler 180/2 litres are lovely cars sadly all gone from Britain, they must have one of the highest rates of attrition of 1970's cars here.

Their popularity went to Jimmy Savile levels very quickly.....I don't remember why, particularly, although the interiors had the lifespan of a loaf of bread.
