Little update. Checked levels a few days ago ( usually do it twice a week) and noticed it had barely any coolant. I know it had coolant when I last checked it last Monday as I checked it before the funeral I had to attend 30 mile down the motorway. Oh bollocks
Down to the garage with it and found the plastic thermostat housing was leaking. New one complete with stat was 23 quid so ordered and fitted. The old one had become brittle were it mates to the block and also found dried coolant crystals on the rear of the seal as well as around the exterior on the joint. No problems since and coolant is staying topped up. Regular checks pay dividends.
Tonight I went to pick a mobility scooter up and it still smells hot and a bit oily when the engine gets hot for example steep hills and slow speeds on the back lanes. The engine is now completely oil tight after the sump was done and rocker cover a couple months back so maybe it's just burning off any residual oil? Any ideas on that side is appreciated.
Taken sone pics of my travels,Derbyshire really is in my opinion a beautiful area.

In other news, the focus is being made the main family car (it was already but this time its official) . Mini is being returned early, its done less than 14k in 2 years so then the focus will be put onto disabled tax which will free up nearly 300 quid a month. Plan is for the wife to use the focus for work 2 days a week and to visit her mum once a week, rest of the time is business as usuall as the focus is used for family day to day life as I find it more comfortable than the mini. The mini was getting used once a week for Claire to go to work,I take her one day in the focus and to her mum's so doesn't even do 50 miles a week anymore. No logical sense in keeping it. Once we've settled our finances back I plan to get 2 wheels for my running around on like to shops etc and should save a bit more on petrol in the focus too. I really want another Honda c90 so that's the goal. Use that and focus for a year or so then sell cub and buy another trike.

As you said Bub it's probably just accumulated oil and muck burning off on longer runs when it's getting properly warm.

I noticed it tonight coning back from Macclesfield ,climbing up th Road thar joins Buxton old road with the cat and fiddle, past tegs nose. The road is steep uphill and I was doing 25 to 30 at around 3k on rev counter. Pulled up at tegs carpark and smelt it then.

Is the Cat n Piddle still being run as a bloody expensive cafe type thing? It used to be a good pub in the old days.

If I have front fogs I've always used them during the day with sidelights. Turn them off at night and just use headlights unless I'm on a country lane as they give a nice wide spread close to front of car for to illuminate the grass verges.
Yes it is the cat and fiddle hooli. I'm unsure what it is now,the tea rooms are still further down the road as well.

Wonder if the oil smell could be a blocked breather? Not that familiar with this engine but had that on others.

Thats a possibility, something to investigate. The smell was stronger in the car oddly.
