That big black frame is actually the TV. I put that up yesterday with Dave, on a TV mount I got from Amazon as a today’s special. When I say I put it up, I acted as the second man or Pinky out of Pinky and the Brain.

We still put it up and took it down 4 times to get it to fit.

Just need to plug and wire it in now. Another small job (unlike the wood staining and decorating, which is a HUGE job. ‘Sigh’

So I’m now waaay over 20k miles in the WReX and the anniversary of its purchase Is 1 year and 1 month ago. So that’s 1500 miles a month plus. Not bad as I haven’t been required in the office most days.

Only one real breakdown, where it lost its water. Three oil changes with another one just due. A new set of brakes, part warn all season tyres. The emissions control solenoid has gone, so it clanks like a good’un at idle (but has been broken for the last 20k miles) and the most unfortunate thing that will probably see me move it on in summer, the AC died big time. A month after I recharged it.

Need to put the snow tyres back on and hopefully get the little one to watch me do it, so he has a clue in future.

In other news, I went to the bank and wired the money for this yesterday.

It is only a 912 and I’m essentially swapping my 911 against it, but a similar 911 of the same age is between $70 and $120k now and that’s not happening in my lifetime. So, knowing that a 911 isn’t that fast today, have fun owning the better handling of two relatively slow cars.

It does have a big bore kit on it, taking it to 1.7 and 90bhp.

Who knows, I might even find a 911 engine to swap into it, but probably won’t. I keep telling myself it’s a keeper!

Caterham should be showing up today, as it’s finally been released by the Feds at the docks and now being trailered to Minneapolis. It’s due to arrive between 9:00 and 11:00, with a storm expected at 12:00. 8 to 10 inches of snow.
Then between 11:00 and 3:00 the 911 gets taken away :(. Quite sad, but think it’s going to a good home (a collector) in Canada.
That’s if the driver can make it through the storm!

In other news, the WReX is giving me the ‘I’m not for this planet much longer vibe’. A nd ‘I can hear the bean cans calling’.

I don’t quite know what it is, perhaps the way the cabin fills with exhaust fumes at traffic lights and stop signs. Maybe it’s the new squeak coming from the engine bay. Or maybe the ever present clicking of the broken emissions valve… No, I think it was the way the jack disappeared into the rear sill as I put the winter tires back on it.

It’s such a shame as 21k miles in after 13months of ownership, it doesn’t owe me much.

Really wasn’t expecting to need to buy a replacement this year though and was hoping it would see me through the winter. Might have to sell something to fund a new daily… Anyone need a kidney?

What's the time is it over there, what's the time difference?
Regarding the scooby, I'd just run it till it dies. You've nothing to lose really.

We are six hours behind, but maybe a good 20 years in most things, like attitudes and religion…

At the moment, I have $2k in the purchase and around $1k in parts (brakes being the biggie, and used summer tires). I sold some of the parts that came with it, but gave that money back to the guy who arranged for the cars resurrection.

I should clear my money back if I can find something else winter worthy. The problem is, the used car prices here have gone insane for some reason.

There’s no MOT or road-worthiness test here, so it should last another winter, but then I’m not sure if there will be any value left in it…

Maybe a gentle root around for something slightly less buggered by the salt and snow.

Just had a call from the driver of the Caterham…

Quote “Just FYI. The car runs but it’s leaking fuel and the throttle is erratic when in gear. I had to push it in the trailer. Good thing it only weighs about 1300lbs”.

Ha ha ha. It was fine when it left Southampton. Wonder what’s been stolen or messed with… Happy days!

I hope not.
The steering wheel is quick release, but that might be a bit obvious if that went.
Hope no-one has helped themselves to carb bits though…

Just spoke to my American car insurance company. They wanted to charge me an extra $100 a year as the car was ‘modified from a Caterham, to look like a Lotus 7’.

That’s just taken three phone calls, an email and them doing some live web searching to sort out. ‘Sigh’

Will have to wait a while before I get to start it (pushed it into the garage), but now waiting for the yellow car pick-up. :D
