Attack it with a wire wheel and a CAT, (Eddie TheRainman will buy you one) pull it to bits, put it in storage, then buy another one even worse.
Standard practice round here.
Damn, youre right!

Maybe SiC can help me out there  We both seem to have buyers remorse. :D

So I’m finally over my paddy with the poorche.

Started bailing out the crap from the car and there are some small bits in there that might be useful, but generally it’s tot. Especially the random drinking glass, toothpaste etc.

And started in anger. The window tint isn’t legal in my state, so that’s the first thing that needs to clean up.

Really crunchy removal…

And started peeling the purpleness off. The point of no return!

When you say not legal in your state would it be ok if it was still registered in California and just a visitor's car in your state?

Yes, it would be.

The plates have unfortunately run out, so I will have to get it registered in MInnesota and then the windows wouldn’t be legal.

Weirdly, my wife’s SUV (as considered a truck) can have blacked out rear windows.

The cops in MN have bigger fish to fry than an old 912, but I’m more of a low risk target (less likely to be a gun toting idiot maybe) for being pulled over.

Rather than risk it, it looks awful anyway and I need to replace the rubbers, I thought I would just change it. :)

But because of bloody Murphy, two tiny spacers that gave up the ghost and crumpled to chunky dust, are on back order until the end of the week…

Tempted to quick sketch them in CAD and print them, but I’ve paid for them ($7 each) and sorted the postage ($6) so will just wait… I would have liked to get the windows done and back in before the weekend. Otherwise, they will just bleed over and take time from the next job - where I’m going to need my big boy pants…

Crazy how much lighter the back of the car feels without the tinted windows in. Just need to peel and deglue it.

Not looking forward to the rear window. Think I might wait for the window to come out or pay a pro to do it.

Or maybe buy some beers and stick the radio on and lose a back aching weekend to it…

Edit: why oh why doesn’t the paint look as good as that picture in real life!!! Arse burgers!

Still need to attack the sticky stuff.

Three big plans for this weekend. Two of which are really risky.

First I want to put up the shelves I’ve ordered from Mr Benzo for the garage (if they turn up) so I can store the car crap.

Second I want to finish the side windows - break off the existing seals, clean up the chrome and get the new seals back on. Reading on the web, judicious use of a hairdryer is recommended. (This is Uber high risk as the Mrs has one, but it’s one of those Dyson dries your hair better things. So if I get caught with it in the garage, this could be my last weekend of posting on here…)

Lastly, and probably most significantly, I want to pull the rear bumper off and see if I can straighten the rear end crash damage a little. BIG JOB!

If I can just get the rear end off and understand where the twist is, it will be a start!

Knowing that it’s probably not been touched for 50 years and at some point, a bunch of the bolts have been stressed, makes me think, I’m in for a struggle!

Maybe Friday night should be going around the bolts with some WD40…

And yes, floor space in the bench area is a bit of a commodity I’m short on, due to winter storage!

Why haven't you one of these bad boys? Bad planning, that's why.

Steinel - 110025597 HL 2020 E Professional Heat Gun, LCD-Display, 1600 W, hot air Gun for Welding tarpaulins, Window tinting, Variable Temperature and Airflow, fits 1.34" Standard nozzles

At least you can control the melting of the rubbers.with it.

Alternatively, could you not just chuck 'em in a bucket of boiling water for a bit?

If you don't want them wet, stick them.in a placcy bag before dunking them.

That’s a great idea - that will probably save my testicles in the long run! :D
