If someone is thick/careless enough to run into the back of you, they will do it regardless of indicator colour.

I would be tempted to modify a trailer board to hang from those hinges for use on busy roads, and hide a trailer socket behind that bottom panel.

Ha ha - well I decided to go back to red flashers - legal or not. The old amber ones were on the bootlid and since I swapped the bootlids over the back end looks so much neater.
Thanks for the tip Cros, I ordered some LED panels from the place you mentioned, which I will place inside the existing lamp units.

You can get a serious green LED bulb in 15 size from chandlers- navigation lights use them and the have to be visible for a mile or something similar.

Those are seriously powerful LED bulbs, tho it may be too much as there's no heatsinking in that small a package. It does however seem to be a UK firm so you'd have comeback if they don't do what they say on the tin?
Cree do some of the best and brightest LED's in the world. I've made up various little lighting projects with them over the years, including a projector retrofit. As a DIY alternative I'd find an amber LED on a star, stick it on a heatsink and power it with a Buckpuck. They aren't cheap but are very well designed and don't mind dirty voltages.

I've found a green bulb, very bright but not sure how good it would be behind red lens in bright sunshine. A lot depends on how much room you've got, most are double pole too which is probably an arse.
