Gear linkage all fixed and it had it's first run up the road. First impressions are not good, it is ok but bloody noisey and sounds like I am thrashing the life out of it at 50mph. I will run it round a bit more but think it will have to go.

Talking about PDi conversions has the Austin 1800 been Frankensteined yet or is it scheduled after the Renault 11?

There must be a PDi shortage as the 11 is now for sale with the original engine still in it.

Yeah I did read the thread about that and I would say the curse of buying from a "trusted shitter" has finally struck the lad. I was kind of interested in that 11 a couple of owners ago but something seemed wrong about it. A few expert owners later and the real fault, which was always "just this cheap fix" has been revealed. Renault autoboxes are shit end of story, they were shit in the 80's and they won't of got any better all these years later. That is one motor that putting a pd lump in would improve it as long as you fitted the box as well. Moral of the story is buy from a "wobber" at least you know what could happen to your cash !

I drove the deek again today and it is growing on me now even if it did flatten the battery as the alternator had decided not to charge. I actually had a spare one in amongst all my crap but in the end it was the shit wiring that was at fault. One more thing fixed so it is getting there now
