I think so, sounded like a great engine once it was sorted. I'm not sure I've seen one in the flesh.

Common opinion lay some of the blame on dealerships of the time incorrectly servicing the twincams. Wonder what else they would have done with the engine - it must have stuck out like a sore thumb on the accounts sheets. A ZB Varitone Twincam would have been a nice thought.....

I've seen the same said of the Stag V8.
A 1798 one in the MGB would have been brilliant, a sort of British Alfa Spider.

I thought problems with the twin cam in the MGA was something to do with the carbs being too lean in certain operating conditions?

I think that there was more than one.
I seem to remember it had a very high compression ratio for the time and that was blamed. Didn't it also have a high rev limit and high oil consumption? It certainly wasn't a normal MG engine.

Needed 100 Octane - at a time when few fuel stations carried it. Ignition timing and carburation said to be critical. F.Wilson McComb also refers to the rev-limit by inferring that a lack of OHV thrash and resultant mechanical sympathy led to owners simply over-revving.

Carb mounts, that is what the big problem was:

Shame the MGA looked like dogshit really.

Tbh going by the complexity and fragile nature of the 16v setup on my Sprint, I'm quite happy not to have a B-series with the same engineering prowess on it.
