I don't mind a bit of oil leaking and it's helped the underside of my BGT to not rust too badly. I'd like to know where the oil is going though when you thrash it. A tad smokey out the back but nothing like expected given the quantity of oil loss. Hopefully it's just out of the sump where it wasn't quite tightened up.
Intention is still to pull the engine sometime in the near future to send top end off for rebuild/tune (Peter Burgess) and hopefully the bottom end just needs a set of new bottom end bearings. Also replace the rear main seal that is leaking into the clutch housing. That probably dried out where it sat for ~15years.
If it is "smokey out the back" you should check the rings too.

I have tried breathing through the breather before and there isn't much restriction on it.
Going to continue monitoring the oil level and hopefully the sump tightening will improve things. Not that bothered now tbh as a rebuild is hopefully planned in the future sometime.
I get daily email from Twitter saying what I've missed. I'm not a big Twitter user but I have a few people followed and I occasionally read the email to see if anything interesting comes up.
Anyway Seabrook/dollywobbler is one of those that I follow and he re-tweeted this:
I do quite like that and it's the same colour as mine...
My original Rostyles are in the garage and the second hand ones currently on my BGT are scruffy looking anyway. Can't imagine a set of old scruffy and rusty bumpers are that expensive either. If I can find a set, I'm seriously thinking of trying this out. Won't do the window frames to match that, see what the rest is like first.
