Should I buy a Rav4 ?

One of my customers had a 1999 Toyota Rav4 3 door petrol. I have looked after it for the last 8 years and it is in great condition for the year with just under 80k miles and passed the mot in Febuary with no advisories. She passed away a couple of weeks ago and her son rang me today asking if I wanted to buy it. So what do we reckon is it something that might be worth having ? It is a nice old thing but I have no real use for it and he wants around 800 quid for it which I think is way too much. No pictures but is is a mk1 3 door in that purple sort of blue colour.

Yes, they are great if not rusty, £800 is not unreasonable for a nice one.

Actually not bad money for a not rusty one. I’d get under it properly and have a poke with something heavy.

It is very good underneath and had a couple of gallons of waxoyl thrown at it a couple of years ago as it had surface rust on the suspension arms. It is probably as good as you would get for one of these. It has always been well looked after and even though it has a set of off road tyres it hasn't been used off road and has only been doing a thousand miles a year for the last 5 or 6 years. I might offer him 500 quid for it as that is all it's worth to me, it's a shame I have no where to store it as I think it would make a reasonable investment if stored properly.

They hold their money incredibly well. You could probably sell it on for £1200 with a good valeting

Where these 2wd or 4wd? I can't recall.

Ours is full time 4wd, I think most if not all of the early ones were.

They did both I think but this one is 4wd. I will make an offer on it once they remove the personal plate. I am glad they are as M14POO doesn't do it for me but is probably worth a few quid to the secptic tank emptying types.
