We'd actually gone there to see their other Corona.

But naturally it didn't get much of a look in once we'd found an example of the less desireable model in worse condition.

It was keeping company with a rather less rareified Corolla, which clearly couldn't muster the sheer prestige and design flair required for Toyopet badging.

But this ex-giffer Datsun was my pick of the day. Thankfully it doesn't appear to be for sale yet, which relieved me the burden of having to buy it.

We then departed, to another dull used car dealership which unfortunately didn't possess any 50 year old Jap tat, and where the free coffee was massively overpriced.

The funny bit was that whichever conveyance in our possession we would have chosen, it'd have woefully failed to blend in at either location. We came to the conclusion that anything owned by the GGG would only blend in if we visited a scrapyard.
The second place we visited, the one that served free coffee of a quality making it still a rip off, was one of those used car supermarkets and thus my first exposure ever to an automotive retail operation only dealing in shiny shit from this century. I'm still traumatised. The weirdest thing was that not one owner of the tat parked in the customer car park had any reason whatsoever to visit the place. Our trusty 405 thus stood out like a sore thumb.

Neither of my sons show any interest whatsoever in cars except as a means to get them from a to b and back again.
They both drive shiny shit as having Bluetooth etc is higher on their list of priorities than it being a decent car. They have no idea mechanically and no interest, I've shown them what needs checking on a regular basis but they usually forget as there's no app to remind them.
So shiny shit suits them, as it does most of their generation.

Shiny stuff scares me.
However, I can understand your immediate relatives and most of their generation. The ransom old geezers hold cool old cars hostage for will inevitably scare them off. The old geezers can then moan about TNG not being interested in old cars, a win-win situation for them.
I meet a lot of young lads courtesy of being blessed* with two daughters way exceeding even my attractiveness, and a lot of them have a keen interest in old cars, some even in prewar ones. But what those stupid old shits think in their deluded little minds they are monetarily entitled to discourages the youngsters no end. Hell, it does the same to me, now that I think about it.

Yoof is still into old cars. Yoof likes 25 year old E36 BMW's and Golfs because they're still cheap enough. Yoof isn't really into A60's and Marinas but......

Yes, old cars are obscenely overpriced. But A60, Marina etc prices will fall out of bed as the original owners die off. That's why Armstrong Frightfulls are worth fuck all - most would-be owners are either fossils or worm food. I suspect Rolls Clouds are going the same way. A big polished turd that is nowhere near as cool as a Shadow.

When tidy Riley Pathfinders drop down to a grand I might buy one. But you're right. Cars like that are of no use to anyone sat in a garage being brought out for shows. As a car it is your servant, not vice versa. If my E32 wasn't 25 miles away, I'd use it 3-4 times a week.

And the longer it is, the higher the probability that it won't make the 25 miles anymore.

Especially that newfangled tosh that meanwhile constitutes three quarters of the classic car section on eBay.

'Modern classic'.

Fuck off, it's just an old car.

Still better than 'future classic', which isn't even just an old car yet.
