Was it a red saloon? We explored much of the rest of the property, which spans 27 acres and there were various other cars scattered about in different states of decomposition and butchery. One of which was a red Riva being overtaken by brambles.

Probably do a cheap Howdens job as that is what a builder friend recommends. He'll be fitting it and his rates shouldn't be too bad as mates rates.

Wanted to take a wall down to make a kitchen + diner, but was intended to save up for all that. As it needs doing sooner, thinking of having something cheaper and live with it for the next 5 years or so. Then decide what to do then.

Like for like they're usually cheaper than Howdens unless you go for Howdens budget Tecknic or flat pack range, quality wise there isn't a lot to choose between them I've fitted enough of both, advantage of Howdens is you will have a local depot and can change things/ harrass them when it's wrong or missing and drink there coffee.
worktopsonline are the cheapest for worktops I've found.
If a friend is fitting it he will hate me but for a temporary kitchen that only needs to last a few years I would get a price from IKEA.

Yeah, a red saloon that I bought from another field of dreams.

I replaced a bunch of panels and sold it to him for £500.ImageImage

So I went to the auction on Saturday. It was up a country lane which was just wide enough for two cars, but one side of the road was full of cars, car transporters and trailers including one optimistic owner with a Citroen Nemo and a car trailer. Great tow can I'm sure... Anyway, due to clueless drivers and a couple of people parked on the opposite verge it was chaos so we just parked up and walked the half a mile in. The track was not particularly muddy and would have been able to be driven on by pretty much any type of car. The field itself was a bit squelchy in places but there were plenty of bark chippings laid down and they had tractors and a Manitou to move cars to harder ground after the sale.

I just had a look on Autoshite to see if any of those clueless cuckolds bought anything but they were frightened of the mud so hardly anybody went.

I came away with this beauty. I towed it with my two wheel drive Xantia which drove in and out with no bother.

I've not looked underneath but a a brief look at does appear terminally fucked. I only bought it for spares for my Pennant but I'll have a good look at it before I make a decision. I would much prefer it to live on if possible so if someone did want it I would sell it at cost. It's pretty crunchy though, don't expect it to be any better underneath! though

I spoke to the owner of all these, he seemed like a decent chap. I've mentioned this place to him.

2p seems about right for 1976-ish. Strange to think that wrapper has every chance of out-lasting the Standard....

Seeing as it's test exempt don't you feel the need to break out the chicken wire and isopon and wob up the worst of the holes and toddle about in it for a while after making sure the brakes work?
If you are thinking of transferring the plate make sure it's either taxed or sorn asap.

Actually it's quite charming to look at, it would make a nice period looking van if you squinted,..

Yes I quite like it, would make a really practical classic. I'm hoping it's as fucked underneath as it is on top because if it's any good I'll have to do it up. Every exterior panel is fucked, each door bottom and wing bottom has a large plate self tappered over it,,with either rot or filler on other parts. The cover sills look like they are about to fall off. Bizarre how the Autoshiters who saw it have commented how solid it is. Immediate cataract treatment recommended!!

I will attempt to get it started at some point but I'm not too hopeful. The manifold have been unbolted and are an inch of so away from the head. Maybe someone started the job of removing the head for some reason? Who knows! I do have a Peugeot XUD and gearbox out of an LDV though...

As for the plate, I believe it has to be continuously SORNED or taxed for five years for the plate to be able to be removed and the car has to be capable of moving under its own power. It is currently SORNED but not sure for how long it has been. It only shows as one previous owner, with the current one from June last year. Not sure how to find out how long it has been in SORN. It comes up as never having had an MoT and there is a 1984 tax disc with it so my guess is that it was off the road until last year and only put back on the system then, so I would have to keep it four years before I can remove the plate?

Excellent CLINT, good write up and photos. This Standard must have been unique in that it is a 4 door small estate car. I cannot think of any other British cars of that type available at the time.

I sold the scrap shell of a BMW last year, untaxed since 1995. The plate was off it in a month.

Go figure.
