Quite interesting, that 2m figure over a 48 year period. By comparison, production in the period after 1952 included 300,000 pre-Farina Cambridges and half a million A30/A35 variants. Over a million Austin-badged ADO16s were also built after that.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

I agree most were tidemarked to perfection but it still could be a GRP/replacement wing fitted onto a car with black sills. I concur that it looks like a base (judging by the wheels) and thus not likely to be "R" packed but the facelift did bring some rationalisation of those trim levels.

TL:DR - I've seen more Capri facelifts with black sills than without.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

I bet the conductor is worried that if the VW gets caught there'll be an immediate fireball and all the bus passengers will be incinerated.
