Phwoooarr!
Although the newfangled tosh headlamps, lack of reflective plates and lack of GINGERCATORS anger is strong.
Can't disagree on the lighting aspect but I clearly recall seeing quite a few trikes (mostly Regals of course) wearing black and whites during that time. Funny enough the first "H" reg I recorded in my notebook (which I still have!) in August 1969 was a Reliant and that WAS on reflectives.....But many were sold by motorcycle dealers who seemed to hang on to black and whites. I can imagine there being some reluctance on the part of three-wheeler buyers to stump up the additional 15 bob for reflectives or whatever it was - they were still an additional cost back then.

Much better, and as we both know he has only done half a job on the 21E thing - 10.5E?

Marvin started up with the first turn of the key. the last time that Marvin came out was about a month ago when we had trouble with the Toyota. well the trouble with that was me, and my heavy right foot! It needed new back brake pads and disks, and a new caliper. oops!

well with the Toyota in dock we were a car short, so i put some tax on Marvin and Kerry ran about in it for a few days. Prior to that the last time Marvin was out of the garage was October 2021 when i got it mot'd, that hadn't been done at all in 2020 due to "the virus of unspecified origin"

so this weekend we are going to go out and about and what better reason do i need to run about in the Metro? and in preparation for that i have washed it and even put some polish on its piantwork. and i even put the club stickers in the windows that have had put away until i got chance. which means that these stickers have been sat in the glovebox for 2 or 3 years. hell one of them is for the Metro 40th anniversary year, back in 2020! that year both the Metro and Cocopop spent the year sat in the garage. we didn't bother with either car! that is i guess one job, jobbed.

i like them too, though i'm not so bothered by the Rover Metro or 100's, just the Austin and MG ones, cos i have a soft spot for the A-series. Kerry and i are both of an age where we learnt to drive in a Metro (or mini-Metro in kerrys case)

yes, its crude when compared with a modern engine, and relatively under powered too, even with its contemporises, such as the Ford cross-flow and the Coventry climax motor in the Imp. but the whine, from the transmission that only transverse A-series make. its all part of the character of the car.

so today we pottered over to Cars on Show at Stokesley. Marvin is running really well, considering its been no where in a long time, yes, we got a vibration at 50-odd miles an hour. i'm thinking its the balancing or something, we had the same with cocopop when we started using that car again earlier in the year, only for the tires on that car to come back round after a bit of use. and it was hot this morning, proper hot, and guess what, yep, i've gone and caught the sun. a lot!

so i was expecting Marvin to be the only Metro there today. i was wrong, as there was both an MG one and a Rover one there too.

and there were other things on show too, including the Trabant from the socialist paradise called East Germany, and the ultimate serial killers panel van

it was a very very good turn out today, with some proper valuable metal on show. the pictures are a selection of those i took today, even though most of the cars that i did picture are very much of the cheaper end of the spectrum. just cos i guess my preference is towards those vehicles which were intended as "sensible" family transport, or those which happen to be a proper leery colour! such as the Elan, lovely looking, and a proper period colour too.

I remember going to look at a metallic blue +2S 130/5 but ended up buying my MGB. In hindsight a wise move as I'd never have managed to keep it on the road at times, like the boys coming along and putting me into penury.

today cos i've been holidays we went over to Whitby for a run out to make the most of the hot and sunny weather.

and it was lovely, Whitby was quiet, been just a Monday when the schools are still there is quiet. mind you, folks have been saying that Whitby has been quiet even on a weekend, maybe the price of fuel is putting folks off? well i ended paying £2.03 per litre the other day (that is £9.21 a gallon) for proper fuel. thank you the gouging wee arsehole at the local co-op (which i think is a franchise)

still a nice run over to Whitby today, and a run over to Murton Park yesterday for a car show at the Yorkshire Museum of Farming and the Derwent Valley Light Railway. which is nice, i really like going there, it is one of my favourite places. its only a little show and its the first tine since the "virus of unknown origin" fucked everything up! it was only marred by the dickhead in the Avenger driving like a cunt on arrival and when leaving, just right for when there are kids and toddlers running about. wanker.

so all told i have run about 170 miles in Marvin this last weekend without a hitch, hiccup, cough, nothing. and i have been reminded on just how much i do like that car. even up Lythe bank, which is not just steep, it is, its also long. and we climbed that in second gear without any problems. it has been a good weekend. and Kerry is going to run about in the Metro a bit this next week or so, as we've not gone and got Cocopop out of the garage yet.
