well, at the moment i'm rather enjoying the little thing, so i'll say "no"

however when it breaks, or starts misbehaving or some other thing comes up then of course the answer would be "yes" followed by "i wish i'd kept hold of that it was a good car....." usually as the car disappears down the road, after selling it!

so Sunday just gone there was a car show over at Ormesby Hall, at what was once the ancestral home of the Pennyman family.

the last Pennyman, known even now as either "the major" or just as Jim Pennyman gifted it to the National Trust before his death as he and his wife had neither any children or living heir to take the house on after them.

and unlike somewhere like Castle Howard which is just a massive mausoleum of a place, Ormesby Hall is small enough to look and feel like a proper family home. oddly enough it doesn't stop each generation of the Howards fighting like fuck over WHO gets the great house, even though it must be a mill stone of epic proportions to have tied about you're neck!

so for a nice change, since last time out Marvin got a run out, this weekend it was Rodney mini's turn. and while the weather wasn't ideal, it was at least dry in the morning, even if it did pelt it down in the afternoon. indeed we were looking around the house and got to see plenty of folks runnning for cover as the heavens opened.

we also was these fine machines, the Olds still has its Colorado Inspection sticker in the windscreen from 2011, i guess that was when it came into the country, while the Trojan is just mad, with the engine been under the floor on the passenger side, with the driver sat on top of the gearbox. at least it has pneumatic tyres, every other Trojan i have seen has had solid tyres! and the Ds, well what else can be said about "Le Goddess" other than its a car which has not aged a day since it appeared in 1955! dunno if i could live with one mind......

Re: Marvin's miserable miniature motors

Post by marvinsmom »

today we were supposed to travel over to Ripon for the Ripon old cars show at the race course.

i say SUPPOSED too cos we got as far as the site of the Marton Country Club (before it burnt down) before coming home again.

the reason? the usually ever reliable Marvin the metro was running like a bag of shite. it was running the same last week when i tried to go to the Toyfair at Bowburn in it. and guess what, yup, we got as far as Marton before deciding that it wasn't worth risking going any further cos the car wasn't running right.

well Kerry took it home and has apparently run about in it, declaring that it was running "fine" especially the other day when coming back over to mine. i now wonder if my definition of fine and Kerry's are in fact quiet different.

shit - i really like going to the old cars thing at Ripon. while there are other shows there during the year, those are put on by a different mob. things were against us from the start, as we did sleep in later than we intended, and then Kerry spent an age both pissing about getting the motorcycle out, and getting all the clobber on for it, so much so that we were late leaving the house.

thing that i am most pissed off over is the load of fresh low ethanol petrol what i put in the car this morning! even more so at £2.02 a litre!

"get an old car........ they said".
"it'll be fin, they said......"

it will be i'm sure, i know that there is oil in the dashpot cos i have looked!

i'm sure its an ignition problem rather than a fuel one as the car starts and ticks over ok, and seems perky enough about town. the rough running seems to only become apparent when on the open road and the speed builds up.

i'm going to send it over to one of the old school mechanics we know, let him sort it out as i'm getting too old and too blind to be messing about inside dizzys now!

lets have a bit of a fleet update -

we have got the Toyota tested for another year. it has needed a new front bottom arm as one of them had rusted though. for those who have not seen one that Toyota use on the T250 Avensis its a pressed bit of strip thats all welded up. recent we had one that had rusted though so it needed changing. the other one while crusty its still sound. for now.

with the Toyota MOT's, the Rover is next up. now that has in the recent past had the drop links and the brakes, including the hand brake, gone through. given that, i am hopeful that it won't need too much to persuade the man from the ministry to pass it safe for another year.

then as i have been on holidays (yes, i am responsible for the summer ending and the rain starting, or is it cos the schools have broken up?) so the other day with Marvin playing up and the weather breaking we went to the lock-up, and 2 went in while 1 came out. we have had a bit of a fiddle with Marvin, and Kerry wonders if its a fuel issue rather than ignition, like is there some crud floating about in the carb? we have had the spark tester on the car and it seemed ok, though i must admit we have not had the plugs out. yet.

so with the bike and metro away i have run about in cocopop. which was nice. we went over to york, whitby and even seaham. seaham? what the hell is in seaham? well we went looking for "sea glass", washed up little glass pebbles which are made up of the glass waste dumped from historic glass making in sunderland. its something that a colleague at work had seen a leaflet for, so we thought we'd have a look. well we found some sea glass, they are wee glass pebbles about the size of my little figure nail, for the most part! so a bit smaller than what i was expecting..... and not quiet what the promotional literature promised!

and finally rodney mini, well for the last month i have been asking "where are the mini keys?" and "have you found the mini keys?" and "so you have lost the mini keys?" followed by "if you have lost the mini keys, then i'm going to have to beat you......"

kerry has FINALLY found the keys. so sadly i didn't get ti use my beating stick. drat. but now its pissing with rain so Rodney mini can just stay where it is, tucked up in the other garage!

My local locksmith cut a key for my MGB steering lock and said the blank was a relatively common one.
If it doesn't have a steering lock and just a standard FS key, you can easily get precut ones from eBay for not a lot. Even if it's just noting down the key number to order if it gets lost.

we do have spare keys for the car. when i got it there was only the original, and very worn door and ignition keys with it.

so i did like SiC says above by getting a blank cut to suit and another door key with the correct lock number on it.

but we only got the one key for the lockup! and uess where that lives.... yup. on the car keys keyring!

this recent little debacle shows that we really could use another key for the garage lock!
