Re: Fleet Occurrences
Those old Isuzu engines were notorious for being really reliable. Hopefully if you bring the basics back up to scratch it'll be ok. Are there any fins left in the rad? I'd have suggested looking to see if someone has tweaked the pump too but not if it's really slow. Too much fuel in a diesel creates loads of excess heat.

Re: Fleet Occurrences
Radiator looks good but it has been suggested that even though the coolant looks good in the header tank, the system could be clogged up inside.

Re: Fleet Occurrences
My employer ran a load of these from about 1992-5 or so.
I ended up having one after pissing off the FD, it was a good family car and very reliable, as the others seemed to be as well.

It was a good cruiser and family car.
It should have been a Rover 820Si but I pissed off my boss, the Finance Director, by disagreeing with him when he was talking bollocks. Being more qualified than him didn't help the situation either.
When he was moved on , to Sri Lanka, I then got one of the first Ford Galaxies, brilliant for a growing family and UK holidays despite bits regularly falling off.
Obviously left a lasting impression.LynehamHerc wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 7:03 am The worst car I ever drove - The Laughable Cavalier

Having had cavaliers twice as company cars, after I pissed off the finance director, I can say that in my view, they're the automotive equivalent of gruel.

Re: Fleet Occurrences
Yep.
It was a good family car but a bit of a comedown from my Golf GTi.
Being shafted like that was actually a good thing in the long term as I don't suffer fools gladly nor just accept being treated like that.
I set up a Fuck You investment fund so that if anyone ever tried that trick again I could just walk away. I couldn't then as I had a massive mortgage and our eldest had just been born.
That was a significant element on being able to retire, comfortably, before I was 50 so it did make a lasting impression and worked out very well in the end.

You sir, are a star. I’m kind of hoping (but know it won’t happen) to retire in about 10 years (around 62ish but probably won’t happen). Damn.

Re: Fleet Occurrences
Aaaaanyway!
Ordered a new radiator, waterpump, radiator, fan switch and thermostat from ebay, all for £40. At that price it makes sense to just replace it all rather than fuck about trying to flush it all out.
Sold the Mini today for the full asking price, gets collected next week.
I can now get a new exhaust for the Audi.

Re: Fleet Occurrences
Mini was collected today, the new owner plans to fix it which is good.
I had only intended to reverse the 75 to get the Cavalier out so I could drain the coolant when I noticed a puddle.
I think I'm going to go for some fleet changes. I can't be fucked with the Cavalier any more due to it overheating so once I have fitted the new parts it is being sold.
I might think about changing the 75 as well although it is running OK just now, bar an air bag light that popped on.
Rover sprung a coolant leak. The hose from the bottom of the header tank to the block was rubbing on a spring clip on another hose below and a pinhole had formed. The 75 Facebook page were useless so I made a hose using part of the original and some new hose to replace the holed original.

Could mean you feel better about keeping the toys if you have a reliable and fixed priced daily.

Re: Fleet Occurrences
A fair point. No way would I pay £223 per month for BMW unless I had just one car but the Seat looks good value.
I think I'd get bored though. I've done OK with 4 old cars for 2 years, bar the odd blip with the Mini.
Worth a look though.
