I think they hoped it would be appealing in a Cortina 2000E or Cavalier GL kinda way

I happen to greatly like the Marina, I had a pov spec 1.8 coupe and a '73van. They were easy to look after and just got on with the job. Bought second hand in the 70's they were a much better bet than a new one as after a few years the garage or previous owner would have finished assembling the vehicle. A complete new exhaust system for my van cost £12 in 1984, and I remember thinking as I lay in the road fitting it how rot free it looked underneath. Would now be worth more than the £40 I paid for it.

I'd only owned it 6 hours when that pic was taken last September. It's been washed once since then

Lovely looking car, I had one very similar, but with a dark brown interior. (TTX 60S) Mine went to Ireland, not sure if it came back.

That is lovely, do you know any of its history?

I like Marinas - like so many everyday cars they were everywhere then just faded away.

Marina 1.8 auto?

Pretty sure I know it's history: rushed into production by a company with no spare money for development. Was way behind its peers when launched.

This example was bought new by a retired fellow who had always bought Morris products. Was driven about 5,000 miles a year until his death whereupon it was locked away in the garage until his widows death. It was then put on eBay by the family when it was bought by a 'dealer' who got it running, tarted it up and then tried to sell at a vast profit but with no takers. It was eventually sold to an enthusiast, way below the original price.

Am I close?
