Re: That awful colour MGB GT

If your carburettors are in fine tune based on plug colour after running on load hot, valve gaps are as specified and your brakes aren't dragging, try advancing the timing by turning the distributor clockwise (I think) a little. I recall you had electronic ignition? Hence no CB points gap. It's ele...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

Something else of note is that I did a fill up yesterday. Going by the fuel gauge I didn't quite get it as full as last time, so the MPG calculation will be a bit higher than actual. I did 191.5 miles and used 7.57 Imperial Gallons. This makes 25.3mpg for the trip to and back from Shitefest. Seems q...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

Just finished another 140 odd mile round trip to the in-laws. Pretty much routine journeys in this now and have the confidence to go pretty much anywhere. Except maybe long motorway journeys - they aren't particularly pleasant in this. Today was also the longest trip that Mrs SiC has been in the car...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

This is what I'm thinking. The distributor on there literally has no documented curves, so god knows but it runs well. Might get this second hand 25d distributor and give it a go. Cheap enough. At least it's for the same generation engine (18v). I'm wondering if the timing was changed for emissions ...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

Distributors.... Mine is basically fucked. Vacuum advance doesn't, mounting collar cracked and it's cam is worn. Distributor Doctor will rebuild and calibrate for £260 odd. Brand new 123 ignition distributor is similar money for one of their basic ones. I also have that CSI ignition thing I should s...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

I was sold by the idea of Oselli boring out my engine (in the future, not cheap job...) by Mr6C telling me how lively his friends MGB is with its 1950cc bored out engine. Now I'd might only go as far as a 1840cc but either way, the thought of enlarging for more power, along with a rebuild is quite a...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

Are Oselli not as good or well regarded as they used to be then? Its of no concern to many owners anyway as they dribble down the road at 45 which is a waste- I've happily kept up 85 crossing Germany. I know, a mere dribble by teutonic standards. Useful to know. Around 75-80mph I get quite a lot of ...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

I did not know that about the heater. I knew there was an upgrade but wasn't aware it was just a sprite heater matrix. Is removing the heater box as bad as everyone makes out it to be? To be fair, this is a summer car, so I really only need the heater for demisting in weather like at the moment. If ...

Re: That awful colour MGB GT

Did some more waterproofing fiddling on the MGB last night (will write up later) and I think I've got it sorted. Biggest problem was that Toms Knob wasn't blocked up, but the rubber has gone all hard. So water wasn't draining quickly at all from it. Tempted to cut it off.  Went for a drive this morn...
