Re: What did you do today?

Popped some new brake pads on the rear of the 9000 on Saturday, easy enough apart from having to borrow a 7mm allen socket to wind back the callipers. Then took a look at the voltage regulator I had bought for the Datsun. It looks identical to the one in Haynes so in a happy frame of mind I swapped ...

Re: What did you do today?

I've just bought half a dozen old Lucas alternators. Maybe I will have a spare part for yours? This is the old school type with a separate voltage regulator, thanks anyway. Sounds like a good buy that. There are a couple of the same Lucas type on eBay, they LOOK kinda nasty to me, when I see a rela...

Re: What did you do today?

Sounds exactly like my problem there then, I'll take the Lucas apart- if I can and give it a good clean, then see if I can find a similar period Jap one on t'Bay.

Re: What did you do today?

Aye, a fit and healthy Japanese patient has been infected with a tiny useless British component :)

Re: What did you do today?

Went for a drive in the Datty today; all good but the bloody charge light still flickers. It makes no sense why it does it; It can be idling and flickering and I turn the headlights on and it goes out. I've checked and cleaned earth cables, tightened the alternator belt. Now...the voltage regulator ...

Re: 1956 Chevrolet 210

Poignant as it is....I'd get it gone; there must be a useful sum in parts there, including the engine and transmission? You deserve to have something you like sat in that garage that you can use.

Re: What did you do today?

Well I had a look under the bonnet this morning and no signs of any head gasket issues; I sucked up a bit of coolant though which confirms the system is still full of crud, even after multiple goes at flushing it, so that explains things. It pleases me that's all it is, as I've got so much to do atm...

Re: What did you do today?

Replaced points, cap and rotor ont Datty this afternoon, set timing twice over whilst getting points gap right. Went for drive, goes real well now at a pace that belies its 1171cc mill, thrashed it up a long winding hill during which I harassed a couple of Euroboxes. Got to the top and she were hot-...
