Re: That awful colour MGB GT

As has been noted, modern fuel will run like caca if left a few months over summertime. I've seen cars started up and run just fine on proper old fuel that's been sat in the tank for 30 years (varnishes or otherwise). The older stuff, refined well with few additives- remember when unleaded was much ...

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain

Just ordered a tube of grease for the steering. I now need to finish cleaning the steering box out, cut a new gasket and then that can go back together and be painted.

Re: Never mind the Gas Crisis heres the Wobstang!

America is land of the bodge, shade tree mechanic work and bondo repairs. That's the reason a lot of the engineering principles hung around. For one, when America standardizes, it does it full-on, like Junkman says. Not that the designs are simple, but they are generally rugged. Slight engineering c...

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain

Yeah, they added the dumpy fins at the back and those remained until '56 where they rather flattened out. '57 saw the first of the sharp fins on the back, 58 they vanished and '59 they were back with a vengeance. I still prefer the smooth lines of mine. Either all or nothing, the '59 has a nice Amer...

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain

Yup, that's a convertible deluxe 8.

(Number 8 craftily hidden between the "streamliner" stripes, just above the latch on the trunk)

Very nice car, worth a decent coin, too. Quiet, aren't they? Underneath that's identical to mine, '55 they completely revamped the entire car.

Re: Enjoy while you can

Quite a lot of this is down to perception- I'll agree with Eddy on that front. Parked up outside my Pontiac, in style compared to the Nissan behemoths parked across the street is a relic of a lost age. People have asked to sit in it, look around it and realise that indeed it is not quite as antiquat...

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain

How utterly Unbritish. Here they rather let their children chew on bark than getting off their asking prices straight out of Lalaland. Quite often that occurs here too; the price quoted is the price firm. In this case the guy needed to liquidate some assets and I think he was fed up seeing the car ...

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain

Progress has been slow due to life, family, work, wasps and general lack of funds.

I'm going to try and pick up the pace a little bit but right now everything I need to do in order to get the car roadworthy has a dollar amount attached to it.

1951 Pontiac Chieftain

This vehicle is documented elsewhere, but here's the run-down: Back in September of 2018 my wife noticed a 1965 Pontiac Catalina coupe for sale fairly locally. It ran, drove, stopped and steered, wasn't overly rusty and most of it was in moderate shape. I called the guy up because it was a good pric...

Weld it to a big pole and plant it in the ground up by the front of the road where he can see it.
