Re: Alf’s Riley

Yes…..looking forward to being able to see properly again. And reaching point in this job where I need to be able to look at stuff. Did a bit on this yesterday. Exhaust valve seats very unhappy looking IMG_1432.jpeg But came up reasonably IMG_1434.jpeg Gave them a quick wet test. IMG_1435.jpeg Not b...

Re: Alf’s Riley

Got the head thoroughly steamed off. Still had trouble getting the remains of the exhaust manifold off around number 4……ended up cutting it around the stud and giving it a knock with a chisel IMG_1411.jpeg Then had to heat up the stud to get them out…..all were too rotten/bent to reuse. Then just a ...

Re: Alf’s Riley

Haven’t stripped it yet……..by time I got head off it was Beer Time and I can never be bothered after work on dark nights. Pistons/bores look ok so just need to drop the water pump off the head and take it into work for a good steam off.

Might get done this week

Re: Alf’s Riley

Bent pushrods? Yes….. couple. Something wasn’t happy although it turned ok……tested before firing up. I figure maybe valve return may have been a bit slow so there has been some valve/piston interaction. The valves enter at an angle so never come off well Struggling to get head off at moment as ther...

Alf’s Riley

At the end of last year my nephew asked me to get a couple of old Riley’s he had inherited running. I think I posted at the time of the day trip to get this done. Both had been stood for around 25 years. I then got the job of selling them……the RMC went quickly enough and I decided to buy the RMA. No...

Re: Electric vehicles, pros and cons. Have your say.

My boss has been having a debate with Tesla about returning his vehicle. Last week it suddenly switched off on the work car park. They now want him to have it recovered back to them……..he won’t. Apparently remote disabling is very easy on such vehicles.

Re: Electric vehicles, pros and cons. Have your say.

When the 2030 ban was first introduced the actual wording was ‘the sale of vehicles solely powered by petrol or diesel will be banned’ but the media chose to disregard the word solely. As I understand it the move to 2035 also took out the word solely…… Anyone know if this is true as I can’t find a r...

Re: Fire!!!

When lithium ion batteries combust a by product is oxygen so very hard to extinguish. Apparently the only way is to bring the temperature of the whole thing down to a point where it no longer burns…..hence dropping it in lots of water. Not sure about automotive but one solution in the fork truck wor...
