Re: What did you do today?
Tried and failed to pull the bearing out of the hub on the polo. I did get that bolt off that holds the abs sensor on though. Of course the sensor itself wouldn't come out without breaking so had to drill it out. IMG_20230113_145441_320.jpg IMG_20230113_155313_864.jpg IMG_20230113_161856_8CS.jpg My ...

Re: Are you still a car enthusiast?
I probably prefer working on them to driving them, maybe just because it's a complete change from my day job. I don't mind driving but then there's no congestion up here. Getting frustrated at the number of projects I have slowly deteriorating. Must get rid of some soon. One old land rover and one o...

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
Haven't measured the threads but the heads haven't rusted much. Nuts are also half inch so fairly sure they're not original. I've ordered new correct ones but will put it back together with what I have temporarily for its mot tomorrow and see what else needs doing. All has to come off again anyway f...

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
Are these high tensile? I want to put it back together today, otherwise I would just order them up.

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
The threads on the three bolts (set screws) that hold the ball joint to the lower wishbone on this polo are gubbed. They're actually half inch AF so probably not original. Separate nuts, unlike this picture. Do I need to replace with high tensile items or would something out of screwfix do? Screensh...

Re: What did you do today?
Yesterday: Changed the brake pads front and rear on the x trail and set about my daughter's 173k miles 08 polo for its 5th mot in her ownership. Things I know it needs include wheel bearings, brake discs and pads, an abs sensor and an oil change. £200+ at the motor factors for parts and oil. The fro...
