Re: Sub Par Cars

I went for a drive around the Aberdeenshire coast this afternoon. The exhaust is blowing again from somewhere around the middle / back, and I should probably change the coolant sooner rather than later. It really doesn't seem happy sitting stationary idling for long before the temperature creeps up....

Re: Cars Where The Reality Failed To Live Up To The Expectation

All V6 powered, mid sized, family saloons. I'll admit that the Mk3 Cav V6 was "interesting" to drive in auto guise but the Mk1 Mondeo, Vectra B and Peugeot 406 in six cylinder versions just didn't seem any quicker or much smoother than their four pot sisters. Yep. I had a Mk3 Mondeo 2.5 V...

Re: Is it important for a car to have poke?

A part of me would someday like another car that genuinely makes me go "oh shit" when I stamp the throttle. The only trouble with one of them is how often you have to behave. Good point. Due to spending years driving slow-ish cars I tend to use quite a lot of throttle fairly often. The th...

Re: Is it important for a car to have poke?

I also think a lot of what we think of as poke is just good throttle response. Yup. My Saab 9000 is definitely faster than my BMW 316i, but the BMW feels way more responsive, so I end up driving it faster anyway. Neither of my cars are particularly fast. They can get out of their own way and don't ...

Re: Cars That Exceeded Your Expectations

E36 BMW 320i auto.

I thought it would be crap with the small 6 and an auto box. It went rather well and made a lovely noise. 150hp in a car that size wasn't bad at all.

That car still holds my personal top speed record, too.

Re: Cars you hated and hope not to see again

Corsa always used to be popular first cars as they were what you learnt in with the driving instructor. So became the logical first car to own as it was familiar. I learned in a Fiesta 1.6TDCI, thank fuck. If I'd learned in a Corsa I would have been put off driving for life. I am bit biased against...

Re: Cars you hated and hope not to see again

E30 318i Touring, another car I was enthusiastic about getting but marred by an aftermarket immobiliser that had a mind of its own and made the car an unreliable nightmare. Never knew if it would start when you needed it to and with a habit of activating while you were hoofing up the motorway. Not ...
