Re: Tales of cars going through the ring.

My first BMW from auction was an early 5 series too, but mine was a 528, again no i. It was silver with a black vinyl roof and it cost £90 in about 1989. And it was a slug, so fucking slow and thirsty, I despised of getting my money back. But it had a saving grace- a towbar, Pat the caravan thief ga...

Re: EBay Finds

The original F series Victor was better to drive than a Cambridge of that era. Too bad they usually rusted away so soon, when I was a kid it was commonplace to see them driving about with large holes rotted out high up in the bodywork. I think I read that the steel in some places received no coatin...

I wouldn't trust it, it's eyes are too close to each other.

Re: Tales of cars going through the ring.

My first auction purchase was at Witney auctions in 1988. VGN655R was a 1977 Cortina 1.6L, eleven years old and fucked. Noisy cam, shagged clutch, terrible paint job from Diamond white to blue. It was £100. I fitted a cheap Brown Brothers cam kit, replaced the clutch plate (fuck changing the whole ...

Re: Cars that I thought would not be shit but were

Maserati Biturbos are evil bastards that will spin on the fucking spot without warning. Short chassis & loads of power, plus a bit (although not all that much tbf) of turbo lag. I drove a couple when they were new, 430 autos. They were generally as shit as I expected them to be, flaky electrics...

Re: What did you do today?

Depends on the screen, I've always had Mrs' car as a named vehicle on a traders policy , paying extra for her business use. Always used the same bloke for windscreens and rarely had to pay more than £150 for a screen. Last year her ML needed a screen, couldn't get one for less than £475! A policy wi...

Re: Cars that I thought would not be shit but were

My oldest had just turned 18, a years no claims and we'd just picked up her first MX5. It was pissing with rain and I was explaining about how it was going to be a lot different from her Renault 5 Campus. We came round a bend with me demonstrating my drift skills* and discovered an Elise on the verg...

Re: Cars that I thought would be shit but weren't.

Jaguar S-Type, when they came out I hated them and thought they weren't real Jags, even preferring the Rover 75. I didn't drive one until I bought one for Mrs N and I bloody loved it! 3.0 manual with cloth seats, it was lots faster than I ever imagined it would be , ok it was a bit plasticky and rat...

Land Cruiser, the proper big fucker VX or Amazon whatever. I've always liked these since the early 90's ones. Often seen towing posh bogs or massive boats, they must be some machine, I thought. Their reputation as tough, reliable, unbreakable etc. Things like the Aussie saying; " if you want go...

No self respecting scrappie would have wasted a good competition car either.
