Re: What did you do today?

IMG20240121094922.jpg Once upon a time a heat shield lived on the top of the exhaust manifold. It was made of shit metal and over the years it just dissolved away leaving two rusty bolts and washers. Today the corroded components were relieved of their cast iron tombs and turned into swarf. A repla...

Any cheap slope made sensor is false economy. I speak from experience.

Re: What did you do today?

I finally replaced the clutch master cylinder on my Defender. Enthusiasm level was zero but I was in work and had to do something. I have done a few before so it was pretty easy to do. The fluid in the old cylinder resembled used engine oil but it did well after about 3 years of constant topping up....

Re: What did you do today?

I noticed that the front diff pinion seal was leaking on the Defender a while back so I finally got round to changing it yesterday. I have access to a pit so it wasn't a bad job to do all told. Took me less than half an hour and I also greased the props and changed the diff oil whilst I was at it. T...

Re: What did you do today?

The Defender is due MoT so inevitably that means it'll need some work beside swapping the far superior led headlight bulbs for halogen shit. Go figure huh! Had it over the pit at work a couple of weeks ago and the nearside radius arms bushes were goosed. Changed those no probs but the shock absorber...

Re: What did you do today?

Yeah, that's the one. Mine has a K&N fitted, the top has K&N plus XR2 cast into it, Probably rarer than an original air filter housing.

It's a long Allen key with a knurled knob on the end
Nah!, it's got a Weber DMTL carb. I used a similar special tool on the fuel injection on my XR3i back in the day.

Re: What did you do today?

IMG20230822125748.jpg I borrowed this from a mate who hasn't used it in years. I had a fuck about with it to see if it works. The intention is to use it to set up the mixture on my XR2. I'm not entirely convinced by it but I will give it a go. I cleaned the K&N air filter as well, it was minging.

Re: What did you do today?

I spent Friday afternoon and Saturday morning finishing off the little jobs on the XR2. Set the gear selector up, put a sump washer on it to stop the leak and fitted the temperature switch. Took it for a run around the airfield (5 miles) and it performed admirably. As the weather was nice I got the ...
