You really do need to fix that large gap in the backplate. If you don’t, it will suck road shit and water in.

All you need to do is cut a slot in the backplate and feed it around the hub. You need to weld a suitable bit of steel in.

Cut and reweld is the best way. The rear wheel bearings never survive and you would have found the rear driveshafts rusted and seized into the rear hub anyway.

No, just Siemens. M54’s only ever used a Siemens engine management system, not Bosch.

M54’s have a vacuum hose to the fuel filter. If that’s split or leaking you will have EML and running problems. The hose runs to the intake bellows.

The same thing happens to E46 saloon rear light plugs - the earth connection isn’t good enough. A second earth wire fixes it.

Fire some WD40 behind the caliper dust seal and exercise the piston. All the way in, out again etc a few times. That frees them up. It may be a brake hose healing up inside. If it bleeds fluid through ok then it’s alright.

Sounds intriguing.

I quite like train travel - if only it was vastly cheaper.

Ah……cheap.🙂

2.2 2.5 and 3.0 engines are all the same weight but keep an eye on the dipstick as 2.2’s absolutely gallop through oil.
200 miles to a litre is not unknown.
