They do like to rust. Seems to depend heavily upon the environment though- I've seen them rotten from the top down (like yours) or from the bottom up (more common up north) mostly because there was absolutely zero rust protection on the inside edges of the panels. The 55-57 Chevy's are truly great cars! I even had a 56 4 door as my wedding car. In the 70's I ran a 55 for a couple of years before taking it off the road and starting a restoration on it...and eventually giving up (I just ran out of space, time and enthusiasm)! In those days there weren't many 55...
